If there was even a remote likelihood that a pipeline rupture or climate disruption could despoil the Platte River or Missouri River or any habitat that has been used by billions of migratory birds (like the sandhill cranes or snow geese) for millions of years, would you risk it? Or would you change the paradigm so even the smallest risk is unfathomable ... zero-tolerance? To me, this applies not only to wildlife and their habitat, but to all of humanity and our precious biosphere. I await a call from Mr. Tillerson’s office, accepting my final invitation to meet for coffee, since Friday, March 20th, was my two-year anniversary in “retirement” — a milestone of sorts. Given that we are running out of time, Phase 4 of my "A Scout is Brave" campaign is now about to end. If Mr. Tillerson does not respond affirmative by May 5, I will take steps to meet him in Court. If I hear from Mr. Tillerson and we set a date to meet and discuss my book “A Scout is Brave” then there will be no reason to file a claim against him in Court, compelling him to meet with me. Wednesday, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative Henry Waxman challenged the Koch brothers in regard to Keystone XL. Members of Congress are acting with moral indignation. Stand TALL — get on the right side of history. Take the lead and guide your Board of Directors and the entire hydrocarbon industry to a new path. Retiring one refinery would preclude the need for tarsands pipelines. I am just asking you to initiate a global refinery retirement schedule and not stand by idly waiting for Congress to adopt a too-little too-late revenue-neutral carbon fee.
