    Subject: Multiple APT's in Skid Row have Mysteriously STOPPED working??!!!!!

    August 20, 2013

    To all,

    On behalf of the "Skid Row Public Space Task Force", I am deeplytroubled by what I have to share;

    Reportedly, since as early as last Friday (August 16th), at least THREEAPT's in Skid Row have mysteriously stopped working altogether.

    Multiple CBS/Decaux maintenance employees who service said APT's inSkid Row on different occasions stated that "the computer chips werestolen" and "the brains were taken", which therefore means that notonly do the public restrooms not flush, the doors don't even open whichtherefore renders the expensive units useless in regards to helping toease the already overwhelming need of toilets in Skid Row.

    The exact number of inoperable units have not been firmly establishedyet, but it can now be declared that the following APT's areCOMPLETELY out of service;

    1) 6th and Gladys Ave. (Gladys Park)

    2) 5th and Los Angeles (southeast corner)

    3) 5th and San Pedro (northeast corner)

    At this time, it is unknown how long these units will no longer beaccessible to the Skid Row community and it is also unknown how muchit will cost to replace said computer chips and also what it will take toprevent this unfortunate incident from happening again in the future.

    The CBS/Decaux maintenance employees, who provide daily service tothe APT units, themselves stated that the computer chips wereaccessible from inside the units where the public uses the restroom and

    NOT from the backside (no pun intended) where all the electronicgadgetry is and also where CBS/Decaux provides said daily service.

    On behalf of the Skid Row community, who needs access to these units

    (and keep in mind that there may be additional units with the sameproblem), we request a timely and formal inquiry into this importantmatter. Please keep in mind that with an already underserved amount ofavailability and access to public toilets in Skid Row, every day that goesby (4 thus far) there is probable cause that an increase in feces and

    urine will become highly noticeable almost immediately if this matter isnot resolved quickly.

    Please feel free to include us in any and all correspondence related tothis matter.

    Thanking you all in advance,

    Hi Generl Jeff,

    Your e-mail was forwarded to me by CBS Decaux. I just wanted to let you know

    that we were aware of the vandalism problems for 2 of our Automated PublicToilets (APT's) as of 7:00 PM last week Friday (8/16). Yesterday (8/19) around

    11:00 AM, we were notified that an additional 3 APT's were similarly vandalized

    over the weekend. We let both LA County Department of Health and Council

    District 14 know about these problems yesterday, and are extremely disappointed

    to know that someone is intentionally disabling these APT's and in the process,depriving our downtown constituents of this critical service.

    We know that the damage is intentionally being inflicted upon our APT's becauseall 5 of the units were damaged in the exact same manner, and because of the

    tremendous effort it might take to access the areas of the APT's where the damageoccurred. We need to enlist everyone's assistance in helping us catch the person or

    persons inflicting our APT's with this damage so that we can stop this frombecoming a continual problem. As such, if you or anyone else witnesses someone

    other than our CBS Decaux technicians trying to break into the rear of the APT's

    please report it to LAPD immediately. We need to catch these vandals in the act ifpossible so we can end this foolish and selfish activity that is impacting so manyothers.

    Thank you for your continued concern and efforts to assist our downtown

    constituency.

    SIncerely,

    --
