How to get started?

You can play in the sandbox in the way that works best for you:

• Learn by following the scripted, self-paced exercises • Leave the scripts (at any point) and play on your own, venturing into areas of the System

z development environment you want to explore and learn about.

Once you register, you will have four hours per session. Use the tools to explore what's available, without the fear of breaking something. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Download and print the scripted lab materials for the scenarios you wish to follow. These materials help you get started and provide a roadmap for trying out the products in the sandbox.

2. Register for and login to the enterprise modernization sandbox, a remote, virtual desktop, with all of the IBM enterprise modernization tools installed. At this point you are ready to follow the scripts or play with the software if you already understand how to use the tools.

3. Use the resources for each exercise to try each scenario. 4. If you'd like, contact IBM for additional information on any of the enterprise modernization

approaches you've worked with to get additional information, to comment on your experience, or to sign up for free remote education classes.

To get started, visit http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/emsandbox/systemz.html

What scenarios can I try? If you are new to System z environment, it is recommended that you first go through one of the self-paced scripted scenarios. Below is the current list of scenarios you can try. Also many products are pre-configured with sample applications and may offer tutorials, examples and demos that show the new capabilities found in the latest release. No Scenario Products

Frequently asked questions Q1. Where can I download the Citrix?

The online trial program uses the Citrix XenApp Presentation Server (formerly known as the MetaFrame Presentation Server) to provide you a connection from your workstation to the remote server running the IBM product you are evaluating. You will need to download the latest XenApp web plug-in appropriate for your operating system.

If you are installing Citrix for the first time, you will see a popup window that asks for the address of the server hosting your published application. Leave the Server Address field blank and click Next.

If you do not have the Citrix Web plug-in installed when you attempt to access the online trial, you will be prompted to install it.

Note: For windows Use the latest “Citrix Online plug-in” Online Plug-in, to access your hosted applications from your desktop or a web interface. Q2. I am still not able to connect to the sandbox after installing and configuring the free Citrix plug-in. What should I do now? Visit: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downloads/connection-faqs.html Q3. Where can I submit technical questions related to the online trials? Visit our connectivity forum to submit technical questions about using online trials. Q4. Who can I contact for additional information? You can send email to [email protected] for additional information. Note: There is not formal support for the Sandbox virtual trials. Please contact normal IBM support line for any product related questions or visit our connectivity forum to submit technical questions about using online trials.
