"[fOE CONTINUING CHALLENGE"

MAY 1977

The Temple year will soon draw to a close. We can look back upon the busy lOOnths that hve pased with a mdture 9f satisfaction apd frustration, It has been a year rich in activties and programs, and it certainly brought an increase in spectator growth. As our congregation continues to grow, it becomes increasingy complicated to manage its affairs. The finances of a growing istitution such as ours become a greater challenge, and the perennial problem of finding volunteer assistance lOOre and more difficult.

AS we look to the beginning of a new fiscal yar, again I make my appeal to our membersp at lq.rge for support, which includes living up to one's inancial cotment and,

'equally important, actively participating in the religious, educational and administrative funcions qf our Temple.

A marvelous tart will be your attendance at the Spring Congregational Meeting to be held pn May 18th, when the achievents and problems of Temple will be discussed and we will also enjoy some gala entertainment. Please do your part to insure that this meeting will e a large and representative one.

GRADE 7 TORAH STUDY CLASS . • .

As part of our seventh grade curriculum, we are ofering an enrichment program of Torah Study. During this very important year in our youngsters' education, we feel it is most appropriate to initiate an in-depth study of the Torah from the Rabbinic, archaelogical and scientific points of view.

Bill Auerbach, whom we consider one of the brightest and most magnetic members of our faculty, will be the instructor for the course.

Classes will meet on Saturday mornings from 9: 30 to 11: 00 on:

May 7, May 14, May 21, June 4 and June 11

The final session, June 11th, will be a combined class with the Rabbi, students and thei parents. We believe this program will be one of the most significant experiences in our school.

PRAYERBOOK FUND

Thanks to your generous donations, the Prayerbook Fund has purchased copies of the Pentateuch and Haftorahs. Rabbi Levy will be reading from these Bibles monthly.

The Ritual Committee has recommended that we also use the new Union Prayerbooks, liGates of Prayer", as one·of.our Sabbath books. Thanks to a substantial gift, we will be receiving 100 copies of this in the Spring. However, we will need additional copies in order to have one available for everyone attending the Services.

When you have occasion to remember a loved one, a lasting memorial is a Prayerbook. An appropriate card will be sent and a plaque placed in each book. The cost of a Prayerbook is $10. To purchase these books for the Temple or for yourself, please call Mitzi Szerlip (538-0641).

Prayerbooks have recently been donated:

SOVIET JEWISH RALLY IN MORRISTOWN

How often have Jews wished that they could turn back the clock to 1934, and reach out with letters and cables and concrete help to the Jews who were just beginning to experience the Holocaust? Unfortunately, these are only dreams, dreams of a horrible reality. But now, as history seems to be repeating itself in the : Soviet Union, there is something we can ALL do!
