The energy management system WA-EM04 excels by its modular structure. Thusthe user can set up a tailored modela c c or d i ng to h i s / h e r i n d i v i d u a lrequirements and therefore minimizeacquirement costs.
The basic module WA-EM04 includes aLinux computer, with which it was possibleto develop a modern inte l l igentmanagement system.
With the Ethernet connection assemblies, additional analogue inputs as well as nearlyany number of binary in- and output signalscan be supplemented modularly.
Up to 4 bus couplers can be turned on viaone switch at the same time locally at theEM04 .
A maximum of 32 channels can beconnected. With the Ethernet switch on componentsfor PT100-sensors, power measurements,e.g. in unequally loaded 4- lead networks, fast V/R counters, analogue and binaryinput components, the most diversemeasurement and regulatory tasks can becarried out.
The highest quarter of an hour determines your electricity tarifffor the current month and the whole year, respectively
Normally, the electricity tariff is made up of thecustomer price (kWh) and the demand charge(kW) as 15 min. average value. The customerprice can only be reduced by savings inconsumption like e.g. light or heating.
For the demand charge on the other hand, thecosts for the electricity tariff can be reducedquickly and effectively by intel l igentmanagement systems without noticeableimpact on the operational procedure.
For the demand charge, normally the highestquarter of an hour within one month or the 3highest quarters averaged over one year, respectively, are accounted for as demandcharge by the energy suppliers.
It is the task of an energy management systemto continuously monitor power consumption andto regulate it by permanent projection within thequarter of an hour.
Thus power peaks are cut and shifted to times oflower consumption.
Energy management systems should amortizein one to two years.Depending on the size of the company and thepotential power savings, there are simple andmore complex systems available.
Course of consumption without management
Course of consumption with management-The peaks are shifted-
In the run-up of the investment, at first the energy consumption has to be checked with regard to itsuniformity and the hours of utilization, respectively. Here frequently the energy bills can already bring clarification. In many cases, the own powersupply company can help with power consumption charts or own consumption charts aregenerated, e.g. with the data logger WaLog of Walcher.
For smaller companies, normally the application of a maximum plant, e.g. WA-Max 1000 or as wellWA-Max 3000 is reasonable. If an optimum savings potential is of concern, an energy management system WA-EM04 should beinstalled for the control of the course of consumption.
Maximum plant or energy management
When assembling the expansion terminals (bus terminals) ensure that the analogue inputs and Pt100 sensors areconnected after the bus couplers first. Then connect a power supply terminal followed by the binary input and outputmodules. This enables the Watch16 Com to detect the connected elements.
The supply terminal for the power bus is required only if analogue inputs exist. If the supply is left out the followinginput and output terminals will not work.
This bus structure allows the maximum use of 32 channels. (Oneactive power terminal has 6 channels)

4 bus couplers can be connected simultaneouslyto a WA-EM04. A maximum number of 32channels is possible
Online monitoring and operation.
Connection via Ethernet or directly.
No own software required, parameterizing is Executed via theInternet browser.
The power consumption is projectedcontinuously. This results in intelligentswitching actions.Individual switch-on times, switch-offtimes and priorities areparameterizable for each consumer.
External process quantities can be monitored And considered (e.g. temperatures, pressures, …).
Modularly extendable any time.
Logging of up to 500 switching actions.
Sending of risk messages via SMS, e-mail, voicecall, etc.

Energy management
The load profile and the switching operationsare automatically recorded by WA EM04.They can be viewed online at any time.
The performance data can be comfortablyread by the evaluation programmes WaGrafor ECS. These programmes enable statisticaland graphic evaluations. Whereby a moreefficient operational management can beachieved.
Equally the data can be exported into an Excelfile for archiving and simple assessment.

With companies and industrial units, the electricity price is calculated byusing a mix of two prices:a) the price of the actual powerconsumption (kWh)b) the price of the peak consumptionreached at least once within anyquarter of an hour during the wholemonth. To measure these peaks, theelectricity supplier installs counterswhich measure the actualconsumption every quarter of anhour and compare it with the valuesmeasured so far.Every new peak value is taken asthe present maximum.
You can now protect yourself againstthis chance by using a maximumdemand monitor or an energymanagement system. Generallyabout half of your electricity price isdetermined by this peakconsumption price.
This maximum value, measured bychance, is then taken intoconsideration with your electricitybill.

WA-Max 1000The reasonably priced, small maximum demand monitor
In this way any peak consumption isavoided, your production receivesthe electricity needed strictly withineconomically feasible limits and isgenerally not hindered.
WA-Max 1000 has a modernprocessor and permanentlycontrols your powerconsumption, using its four levelsto regulate your powerconsumption. This small unit can exactly keep apre-set peak consumption byswitching on and off a maximumof four consumer loads.
The WA-Max 1000 is synchronizedwith the peak counter of yourelectricity supplier to measure theactual consumption at exactly thesame time.If the pre-set peak value is likely tobe exceeded, the unit switches offany pre-determined sheddable loadsand also turns them on again assoon as possible.
Computerized optimizationof your electricity consumption
The system responds flexibly to therequirements of your company.Because the switch-on and switch-off curves can be determined, thesystem helps to avoid short-termpeak loads or exceeding peaks, without interfering with the processesin your company. The programming is similar to that ofthe WA-Max 3000, just a bitsimplified.
Sample connection:
The maximum demand monitor needs thepower pulse and the time pulse every 15minutes from the electricity supplier's counter. Both signals are usually provided by theelectricity supplier. There is a connecting relay between thecounter and your maximum demand monitor,to avoid mutual interference.
