Case Studies for Eltis

What is an Eltis case study?

A typical Eltis case study describes an activity undertaken by a European city or region to improve its local transport system.

An Eltis case study is not a scheme or a plan but an actual realisation and they need to be described in the form that they are a help for potential followershelp for potential followers.

Crucial elements are not only WHAT has been done but also WHY and HOW this has been done given the context in your country orand HOW this has been done, given the context in your country or local authority. The RESULTS and the LESSONS LEARNT should be properly highlighted.

Want to be happy? A new debate on Eltis

fA new generation of economists is paying more attention to Happiness and Life Satisfaction. They describe the "Commuters Paradox“: people tend to underestimate the pain of a long commuting journey by car and get easier

d d b l hseduced by a larger house.

Harvard professor Robert Puttman found out that for each 10 minutes of commuting our social relationships are reduced by 10%. We also know fromcommuting our social relationships are reduced by 10%. We also know from other studies that commuting is the least pleasurable part of the day and also that rich social relationships are another key element for life-satisfaction.

Did you move recently to a bigger house forcing yourself to a longer commute? Did you manage to reduce your daily commute and (re-)discovered a happier live?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Share your experience on Eltis

What are European institutions thinking about the need for “better planning”?about the need for better planning ?

The European Council of Ministers "supports the development of sustainable urban mobility plans for cities and metropolitan areas" (Luxembourg, 24 June 2010), it:

– "supports the initiatives … to adopt an integrated policy approach"approach

– "recognises that policies … can be conducted most efficiently through a cooperation between competent public bodies"

– "considers that public participation processes favour the inclusion of stakeholders including all social groups" "encourages the coordination of transport infrastructure and– encourages the coordination of transport infrastructure and service planning with town and country planning, including land use planning"
