Notes:

This plan is to be read in conjunction with the Landscape Concept Plan by Millar Merrigan and the detailed civil

design for the Nott Street Streetscape Upgrade from Storm Consulting .

1. WARNING!! The location of underground services shown on this plan are design locations only. Engage a

service location company preferably or contact the appropriate service authorities for as-built locations.

2. Plant Setout: Plants indicated on the drawing are set out to scale.

3. General Note on Soil: Do not work soil when it is wet.

4. Imported topsoil: Where imported top soil is required, the subsoil shall be ripped and cultivated to a depth of

300mm to combine with the existing soil/base (refer to Australian Standard AS4419 "Soils for Landscaping and

Garden Use"). The imported top soil should comply with the following standard:

Free from perennial weeds and their roots, bulbs or rhizomes;

Free from buildiing rubble, including bricks, concrete, plaster, timber, oil or any other matter deleterious to plant

growth;

Free from rocks or stones greater than 5mm diameter, but in any case, to have less than 5% stone by dry

weight;

pf to be 6.0- 7.0

Texture to be light to medium friable;

Free from silt mater.

A laboratory certificate shall accompany the imported top soil, demonstrating the mix is in accordance with the

above requirements

5. Garden bed preparation: Spray area with a broad-leafed plant glyphosate-based herbicide if weeds are

present. Wait two weeks and respray if all weeds are not dead. Remove spent weeds off-site. Remove any

topsoil and store. Ensure no subsoil gets mixed in with the material stored (if no topsoil present, remove

~75mm subsoil) and cultivate subsoil to 150-200mm, mixing in gypsum at 1 kg/sqm. Replace stockpiled

topsoil, with gypsum also mixed in (1kg/sqm). Shape soil, ensuring drainage is away from buildings. Final soil

level should be 50mm above the normal (non garden bed) grade. Plant out garden bed, using 5-10g Osmocote

or similar (slow-release form) - ensure the fertiliser used is the correct one for the plant species i.e. if there are

indigenous/native plants ensure that the fertiliser used has the correct NPK ratio.

6. Tubestock & Shrub Planting Procedure : Ensure rootballs are moist before planting. Plant tubestock and

shrubs as per detail. Place suitable slow release fertiliser in base of hole and mix thoroughly with broken up

soil. Water well immediately after planting and ensure all ties, labels etc attached to the plant are removed.

7. Tree Planting Procedure: The Contractor is to notify the Superintendent prior to deleting any trees due to

service infrastructure locations. Tree locations are to be confirmed with Council prior to excavation and

installation. Trees must be sourced with trunks strong enough to support the canopy weight. Staking is

necessary only to reduce vandalism and lawn mower damage. Tree ties should be loose enough to permit

trunks to move in the wind.

Plant trees as per detail and in accordance with the following:

a. Thoroughly soak root ball prior to planting.

b. Stake out on ground the proposed location of all plant pits prior to excavation. Excess excavated soil to

be spread throughout planting areas.

c. Place fertilizer (1.5g Terracottem per litre of displaced soil or 15g equivalent slow-release fertilizer) in the

base of the tree pit and mix thoroughly with broken up soil.

d. Remove all labels, nursery stakes and any binding materials such as string, twine, rubber ties etc.

e. Remove plant from pot and gently tease out matted roots. Root bound plants will be rejected.

f. Place plant in hole ensuring the soil level of the pot matches surrounding ground level. Backfill around

the plant with well broken up soil. Tread in soil to place root ball at finished levels.

g. Water plants thoroughly after completion of planting.

Spread mulch to min. 80mm depth after planting, creating a watering bowl as per planting detail 1.

8. Mulch: Mulch may be either a non-leafy mulch or a non-combustible mulch such as sustainably sourced

pebbles, recycled bricks or similar products. Timber mulch must conform with AS 4454-2003, and have 80% of

particles in the size range 6-10mm in plan and 5-10mm in thickness; no particle is to exceed 25mm in plan and

avoid the use of rare timbers as mulch. Evenly spread 80mm (min.) depth of mulch to all garden beds, and tree

watering basins after planting operations. Mulch is to be kept away from tree trunks and plant stems to prevent

collar-rot.

9. Lawn repair: Aerate and top dress existing lawn with 10mm sandy loam (optional) and rake out flat. Sow

grass using a hardy non invasive blend (with added fertiliser) to product specifications. Use environmentally

friendly and sustainable products.

10. Maintenance: Is required on all landscaping works for a period of 104 weeks (2 years). Maintenance includes

but is not restricted to regular weeding, watering, pruning, re-staking and re-tying of trunks, regular

replacement of dead stock, edging and mowing of all grassed areas. Mulch is to be topped up as necessary.

Trees are to be healthy, straight, well formed and structured, disease free with a strong central leader.
