Game NotesStrong Power-Play Unit: Elmira’s power-play unit contin-ues to put goals on the scoreboard as the Purple and Gold went 1-for-4 in power-play chances against SUNY Potsdam. The Soaring Eagles are scoring on 29.5 percent of their power-play opportunities, the eighth-best average in NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey.

Beware of the Shorty’s: EC’s penalty kill unit is also put-ting goals on the scoreboard as the Soaring Eagles boast seven shorthanded goals through their first 14 games. Elmira’s seven shorthanded goals are the most since the 2010-11 season when the Purple and Gold scored seven as well. However, the last time Elmira scored more than seven shorthanded goals dates back to the 2004-05 season when the Soaring Eagles scored eight.

Collins & Whittle Lead the Way: Since the New Year, Mi-chael Collins ’16 and Greg Whittle ’16 have been on a tear. Collins has logged seven of his season’s nine points in EC’s first four games of the New Year. Whittle has also totaled seven points, six of those coming on assists.

Looking Ahead: Elmira will be back on home ice next weekend when the Soaring Eagles re-open ECAC West Conference play against Manhattanville College. The first of two games is slated for Friday, January 23rd at 7:00 p.m.

Game NotesScouting Salve: The Seahawks enter the weekend with a 6-5-2 overall record and are winners of three of their last four games. Salve Regina is led by sophomore Evan Schultz ’17 and his team-leading 19 points from five goals and 14 assists.

Back on Track: Prior to December 5th, Salve Regina’s re-cord stood at 3-4-2 but three wins in their next four games brought the Seahawks’ record to over .500. In their three wins, Salve outscored their opponents 21-to-6.

All Eyes on Schultz: Evan Schultz ’17 will be playing in his second career game against Elmira after spending his freshman year at Oswego State, a team EC played last night. Schultz only played in four games for the Lakers but has been Salve’s biggest contributor in 2014-15. His 1.58 points per game are the sixth-most in the country while his 1.17 assists per contest are tied for second-best.

Large Margin of Victory: Of Salve’s six wins this season, none of them have come in close games as the Seahawks are beating their opponents on average by 5.67 goals. The smallest margin of victory for the Seahawks this season has been four.
