Senior Tax Exchange (S.T.E.P.) Program This program allows senior citizens at least 62 years of age to directly participate in the education of our students or operation of our schools. It is a great opportunity for our senior citizens to share their talents with our children and staff while increasing the resources available to our students and staff. In exchange for work completed, senior citizens will receive a specified payment up to the value of their local school property taxes. SCHOOL THEATER

EHS is happy to announce their fall musical, Disney's Beauty and the Beast! We hope you'll "Be Our Guest" for this truly magical telling of a classic fairy tale about a brave young woman and a cursed prince. Sign Making Class Gain experience using one of our newest pieces of equipment in the woods lab, our CNC Router, to make a cedar sign. The sign will be approximately 30"x18" you will be able to design it and use the router to cut the design into the sign. The first night we will make and design the sign and the second night we will do the finishing. Raising Your Spirited Child Workshop This workshop will help you understand your child’s temperamental traits (and your own) and identify cues leading up to challenging behavior. It will help you cope with tantrums and blow-ups when they do occur and help you develop strategies for reducing or eliminating power struggles. The workshop series will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays in October at the Pierce County Office Building in Ellsworth, Lower Level Meeting Room. This workshop is put on by Family Living Educator Lori Zierl from Pierce County UW Extension. Call the UW Extension Office for more information and to register. 715-273-6781. Christmas Cookie Exhange

Join a kitchen full of bakers as we listen to Christmas music and bake cookies! Take home at

least 8 dozen cookies at the end of the class. We’ll be baking some decorated cookies, some

peppermint cookies, and many other Christmas cookie favorites! Bring containers to take

your cookies home in.

Date: Saturday Dec. 9th Time: 9:00 a.m. Location: Ellsworth High School Foods Room Cost: $ 36 Deadline to sign up: Nov. 29 Minimum amount of participants – 8 required Mommy/Daddy and Me Gingerbread House This class is for children ages 4 and up and a mom/dad to help their child construct a one of a kind lovely gingerbread house. Come and spend quality time with your child while your instructor Julie Winegar guides you with tips and ideas to make a beautiful gingerbread masterpiece! The house and glue (frosting) and some candy will be provided. Please bring one bag of candy to share with the group for additional decoration on the houses so we have lots to choose from! Each mom or dad and child will work on the same house and will bring that house home with you. All material will be provided (except the one bag of candy each pair brings with to share with group). The fee is for mom and one child. If you want to make an additional house for a 2nd child the additional fee would be $12.

FALL 2017 ROBOTIC CLASSES Offered Through Pierce County 4-H

NXT’s 101 Introduction to Lego Robotics (Grades 4-12) LEGO

MINDSTORMS NXT is the second generation of robotics products from the LEGO group. These robots

will introduce entry-level robotics with state-of-the art hardware and easy-to-use programming software.

This robotics workshop series youth will spend two nights building and programing the LEGO

MINDSTORMS Robots. From using light sensors, touch sensors, (new color sensors) ultrasonic sensors

to using sound sensors that making robots speak, youth grades 4th through grades 12 will use their

critical thinking skills. Two sessions will be offered and youth are welcome to participate in one or both of

these nights.

Advanced Robotic Class

The Pierce County 4-H volunteers will be offering a new three class robotics series for youth

who have attended one or more robotics workshop series. Youth will have the opportunity to enhance

their skill sets in the areas of robot construction, computer programming and evaluation. Using the LEGO

MINDSTORMS NXT 2.0 education kits as well as the NXT LEGO expansion kits youth will have the

chance to use more functioning parts to enhance functionality of designs and will explore a different side

of computer programing. The expansion kits have an additional 900 LEGO parts!!

This is a 3 class series building a dragster bot and racing it, First class we'll experiment with gear trains

and then build our bot. Second class, we will finish building our bot and learn how to use our sensor and

data blocks to record light and time readings and reuse them in the program and display our

results. Third class each team will modify their bots design to make the fastest running bot. a fourth

class is available in case we need an extra day to achieve our goals, it will be determined during the third

class if we need it.

Beginning Computer Concepts & Microsoft Word Beginning

Don't be intimidated by your computer! With just a few easy to-understand lessons from a patient instructor, you can learn how to understand basic computer functions. Learn basic computer terminology. Learn about your desktop and how to save things to it. You'll discover how to create, open, move save, and find your files, how to recognize different file types; how to sort and organize documents into categories that work for you; and other basic computer questions you may have. If we have time in the last session we will cover some internet questions and facebook.

Class is for the very beginner computer user.

CPR REFRESHER

American Red Cross Community CPR / AED Refresher This class is intended for

individuals who are currently certified in Adult CPR and/or Child/Infant CPR and want to

keep their certification current. The first hour will cover adult skills and the second hour will

be child/infant skills.

RECREATION AND FITNESS

Ellsworth Dance Team Fall Youth Clinic The Ellsworth Dance Team will be holding a youth clinic for grades K-4. The students will learn a halftime dance that they will perform at an Ellsworth Varsity

football game. The cost is $25.00 and includes a long sleeve tee shirt and admission to the game.

When: Saturday, September 30th 1-3pm

Halftime Performance: Friday, October 6th - Where: Ellsworth Varsity Football Field

Students will receive a registration form at school, and they will be able to return the registration form with payment to their school. Save the date, it will be fun!

Yoga Flow – Fitness Based Yoga

Mixed level stimulating yoga class appropriate for beginner as well as intermediate level practitioners. Regain your energy through asana with a focus on core strength, balance, and flexibility. Find calm and improved focus along with a sense of well being by practicing pranayama. Movement is synchronized to the breath in flow yoga due to the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. The breath acts as an anchor to the movement as you flow from one pose to the next in time with an inhale or an exhale. This joyful yoga class is taught by Certified Specialty Yoga Instructor, Robin Kruse. Robin is also a Group Exercise Instructor and Certified in Group Cycle. Tae Kwon Do

An alternative form of exercise and a means to defend yourself. Tae Kwon Do is a traditional Korean-style martial art that stresses using feet and hands as a means of self defense. People of any age or ability are welcome.

HUNTER SAFETY COURSES

Sponsored by the Wisconsin DNR. Course certification is required by anyone born after January 1, 1973, to purchase a hunting license and is transferable to other states. Parent or legal guardian must (without exception) accompany minors to registration the first night. Course will consist of 14 hours of lectures, demonstrations, guest speakers, videos and range work. class, you must notify us at least one week before the first class. Then a refund will be sent to you. (Penalties may apply. Some classes may be nonrefundable.)

SCHOOL CLOSINGS If school closes during the day due to bad weather, Community Education will cancel all its
