2Fresh out of university I felt I needed to stand out in the sea of graduates, to set myself apart from other designers. Aside from my portfolio, I concluded

the extra edge would be achieved with branding. The idea was to present a package to potential employers. Yes, you are getting a hard working, skilled

designer, but you are also buying into the brand, the person ...me. I’ve always felt I can bring so much more than just my trained skills.

3One of my first professional freelance clients, COLD acquired my services to create for them a new bar menu for their distillery in Central London. Their

brief was simple, “a clean look with an old-time feel to emulate the brand”. I feel this was well achieved with the decision to go for a kraft card stock,

sharp vectors and a recurring bubble theme taken from the company logo to represent an old “apothecary” style.

4Another previous professional client of mine. I was required to design the logo for JPK Music Management in one and multi-colour, for various uses. As

well as services to the management company I was also involved in design work for one of their clients, a band, which you can see on another page.

To create this logo I combined the three initials to form a pleasing, fluid logo which is bold and can be used for any medium.

5The two poster designs you see here were personal projects of mine. I began exploring and experimenting with the relationship between text and

vector imagery. I also came to unearth certain harmonies between different fonts and text styles, seeking out which work well alongside each-other.

This has come in handy for many projects since. This clean illustrative style is one I have enjoyed over the years.

6Once graduated, I was scouring the job market for opportunities when it struck me there was an area I had never dabbled in before, UX/UI

design. With the help and guidance of a UX/UI professional whom I turned to for feedback and advice, I set out to create the visuals for my very own app,

“Stem”. The concept behind Stem is an app for aspiring home bartenders everywhere. With the recent resurgence of cocktails, I feel there

7is a gap in the market for beginners who want to get involved in creating cocktails with home ingredients. The USP for the app is a feature where you

can input all the ingredients you have at home into the “My Bar” section, whether that be bottles of spirits, juices, fruit, cupboard essentials such

as eggs and sugar, and Stem will tell you what cocktails you can create with the ingredients available to you and how to make them.

8A personal entrepreneurial project I started before a Christmas to earn a bit of extra money to see me through the holidays. I decided to create a

range of design lead Christmas cards, combining illustration and typography. Executing this helped develop my business acumen, as well as my

design skills in continuity, themes and harnessing the connection between typography and illustration to create something fun and desirable.

9During my time under employment with the personalised gift company “Instajunction” we twice moved website and e-commerce platforms.

Through this I am now proficient in both “Shopify” and “Magento” platforms. I also had the opportunity to explore web design, learning basic HTML and

CSS along the way. The task of new websites were solely my responsibility so there was a lot of self learning, trial and error and experimentation.

10Product design was one of my main job responsibilities at Instajunction. The development of the product range was completely under my control,

deciding what type of products we should be selling by conducting market research, constantly working to find and develop new and exciting

products. In my first year, sales grew nearly 500% with over 150 new of my newly created products in place. Product diversity ranged greatly,

11from birth announcements and save the date cards to personalised bean bags and deckchairs. Working with a multitude of target markets and

users, this job developed my research skills and ability to design for various consumers and groups. Working alone on these projects improved my

design processes efficiency, drawing decent results in short time frames, streamlining my whole working process.

12At Instajunction I spent time exploring the fashion market within the realms of gifting and personalisation. There was room to explore, especially thinking

toward Mother’s and Father’s days. I played with bold, typographical prints as well as personalised illustrative pieces. These projects taught me

about garment care as well as printing processes and creating CAD ready design files, learning a new software, “Silhouette Studio”.

13During my time at Instajunction, new products I designed got their fair share of press and media attention, frequently appearing on the front

page of the online retail store “Not On The High Street”, in magazines, online in blogs and e-magazine articles and even on TV, on ITV’s “This

Morning”, broadcasting to millions of viewers. It makes me proud to see my creations shared this way, gaining the recognition I hope they deserve.

14The most recurring client brief I am approached with is that for wedding stationery, whether it be save the date cards, invitations, place cards etc.

I get these clients through word of mouth and take them on as small side projects. The briefs are usually very strict with the clients knowing exactly

what they want. It is my duty to turn their vision into a reality. It is enriching to work to similar briefs in a number of varied design styles.

15This brief was set to me by “Picture Show”, a film and entertainment e-magazine, to re-brand their logo and company image. I created their new

look by playing on the emotions and imagery of old cinema, heavy in red, representing the seats and theatre curtains that encapsulate every

production and using similar imagery such as ticket stubs as business cards and incorporating a movie reel projector into their new logo.

16I have taken a few briefs from the music band “Canary Swing” who operate under JPK Music Management. The leaflets and press

releases I have designed have been seen by thousands of people all over the UK, being handed out at gigs on tour and distributed to venues and

media outlets around the country. Merchandise is also a big part of any band, having designed t-shirts, jumpers, beanie hats and wrist bands.

17The Value Of Water project started to raise awareness of nationwide water wastage and promote ways to reduce household consumption and look

about addressing any problems. It was designed as a kit to be given away at events, on the street or through the mail. It contained practical devices to

help reduce water wastage as well as informational postcards, stickers, a keyring and a t-shirt, all presented in a tote bag.
