Happy Thanksgiving! Yes, we are in November already and the holidays are just around the corner. First off, thank you ladies for all the delicious dishes for our potluck. It was a different approach, and thanks to all of you, a success. Doris Crayton, our Ellington Human Services Director gave us some good insight on how our Club has helped and can continue to help our community. If you wish to contact Doris for more information, she can be reached at humanservices@ellington- ct.gov . Thanks to The Ellington Senior Center, we have a booth at the Ellington Senior Center Christmas Bazaar where we can sell more of ‘All Things Ellington’. Thank you to Pat Tardif for arranging this opportunity. The event runs from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 1st and we are looking for volunteers to run the table. The job is similar to that of the Ellington Farmer’s Market. If you are able to help, please contact Darlene Hull via email or phone by Friday, October 31. At our November 5th meeting, some things to discuss will be information from the Fall Conference, Winterfest and Adopt A Family/Person. See you all Wednesday night. Wishing everyone the merriest of holidays!!! Karen Antonetti On Nov. 5, 2014 we will have the pleasure of a presentation given by Rochelle Ripley of Hawkwing. hawkwing was founded in the late 1990’s by Rochelle Ripley to fulfill a promise to her Lakota/Sioux Grandmother to “go home and help the People.” “Home” is the Cheyenne River Lakota Reservation in South Dakota – the poorest place in America (US Census 2000 and 2010). “Help” is providing basic needs to the children, families, Veterans and Elders; supporting all Tribal Programs (schools, housing, medical/dental, Veteran and Senior Services). We make three service trips a year: Spring for in-school dental care; June for housing repairs, medical treatment and trainings, dental care and youth activities; and December brings the holidays to all the children to make sure they have a warm and happy season. We also administer the local food pantry to provide critically needed food.
