Ultra Violet (UV) Radiation

WALT: Know how UV radiation can be dangerous and useful to us

You will need: Paper Pen Colours Pencil Read this information:

• Ultra Violet radiation is given off by very hot objects like the sun.

• UV radiation is what gives us a suntan, or sunburn.

• Too much UV radiation can cause skin cancer.

• UV radiation can also be helpful. It can:

--- Help treat skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. ---- Sterilise equipment by killing microbes in medical equipment, rooms and blood being given in transfusions.

Try to remember the ways you can protect yourself from UV radiation.

Sun cream works by increasing the amount of time you can spend in the sun without burning. The SPF number tells you how long you can be in the sun without burning by multiplying your normal burn time by the SPF

E.g. if you normally burn after 10 minutes, and put on SPF 8, then 10x 8 = 80 minutes without burning.

Advertising and spending your money Last week we looked at where money comes from. This week we’re going to look at how people are encouraged to spend their money. Task 1: Think about the last time you were online – what adverts did you see?

Page 14: Ellesmere College · 2020. 6. 4. · Create a ‘pop art’ cat in the style of Romero Britto Learn how to draw a Romero ritto cat with this Pop Art style tutorial. Its all about

Task 2: Think about the questions on the next slide and talk them through with your parent or carer:

Task 3:

Task 4: Look at the advert on the slide on the next page and think of 3 different things that are good about it:

Task 5: We’ve looked at spending money on products – actual things that we could hold in our hands, but there is another way that people spend money. Read the slide below and think of 5 more services:

Task 6: We want you to design your own advert now. This could be for a product or a service. Remember, you’re trying to persuade people to spend their money so you’ll need to think carefully about the words and pictures you use.

Warming up It’s really important that before you start doing any kind of physical activity, you do a warm up. Do each of these exercises for 30 seconds, resting for 10 seconds between each one.

School Summer Fete Equipment: Crayons, PC, Pen, Pencil, Paper, Ruler Brief: This is a pretend project in order to get you to develop new ICT skills and to allow you the opportunity to also utilise your existing knowledge and skills. You have been asked to organise a school summer fete, to take place in July on the MUGA at Ellesmere College. Instructions: Think about all the activities, stalls and attractions that could be included in an event like this. Task 1: Record your ideas in the form of a mind map. This can either be handwritten on paper or you can use a computer and create this electronically, add a few sketches and pictures to your mind map to illustrate your ideas (see example of a mind map below). Task 2: Number your ideas from most favourite to least favourite (1 being favourite and so on). Task 3: Create a plan of where all the attractions and stalls would be located on the MUGA. This can either be hand drawn using a ruler, pencil and paper or can be created on a computer. Remember to label your plan detailing the attractions and you can also add colour to make your plan even clearer. The shape of the MUGA is rectangular and the area is approximately 50 metres long by 30 metres wide.
