    Elizabeth: The Golden Age was produced in 2007 by the director Shekhar Kapur, as a

    sequel to Elizabth a film from 1998, with the same director. Its a romance, drama, biographic

    and historic film that hasWilliam Nicholson and Michael Hirstas screenwriter. The

    soundtrack was made byA. R. Rahman and Craig Armstrong. In this film the main actors

    are:Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth I; Clive Owen as Sir Walter Raleigh; Geoffrey Rush as Sir

    Francis Walsingham; Abbie Cornish as Elizabeth Throckmorton (Bess); and SamanthaMorton as Mary, Queen of Scots.

    The film takes place in England, 1585. King Philip II of Spain married Mary I of England

    in July 1554, one year after Marys coronation in her country (Phillip II didnt get the

    crown because the English parliament did not approve, so Phillip hadnt a lot of power

    in England). In 1558 Mary dies and Philip II goes after the throne trying to convince the

    English successor, Elizabeth, Marys sister, to marry him but she refused him.

    century Europe, where Queen Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) a red-headed, blue eyed, 52

    years-old queen is well aware of the changing religious preferences of her people. She is

    named the Virgin Queen because she wasnt married. She is strong, open minded,

    comprehensive and a control addict. As a queen, she is conscious that the Spanish kingPhillip II (Jordi Molla) wanted to assume leadership of England and restore the Catholic religion

    with his powerful armada and naval force. Elizabeth is willing to do everything to protect her

    country so she prepares for war. As she does this, she tries to reconcile her duties as a queen

    and her unexpected love for SirWalter Raleigh, a brunet with green eyes, 33 years-old,

    English man, adventurous, and an explorer, what Elizabeth wishes to be the most.

    Elizabeth realized that she would be unable to pursued her forbidden love so, in order

    to keep Raleigh near, she incentives her most beloved lady-in-waiting Bess (Abbie

    Cornish) to bond with Raleigh. Bess is a lovely 20 year-old girl, with blond hair and brown eyes

    that is quite found of the queen and that has swore loyalty to Elizabeth. She accidentally falls

    in love with Walter Raleigh and has his son. In that situation, her love for both Raleigh

    and her unborn child suppers the love that she feels for her queen and ends up

    betraying Elizabeth by marrying Raleigh. Elizabeth, then, seems hopeless seeing her

    friend and her love together. Her closer advisor, Sir Francis Walsingham (Geoffrey

    Rush) is a 53 years-old man, English, that his the queens old friend. Hes loyal to his queen and

    a follower to the law. Hes the head of the intelligence departure at the time and he discovers

    an assassination plot which the leader is Mary Stuart, Queen of the Scots, Elizabeths cousin.

    Mary Stuart is a brunet, blue eyed woman that is ambitious and that wants the power that

    Elizabeths throne would give her. When she is discovered, she is judged and

    sentenced to decapitation. As a consequence to this, the battle between Spain and

    England is at march. Despite the incredible naval power that Spain counted on, the

    England ships that wore in disadvantage were able to win this battle.
