Jan)Night cycling
Pharmily Night Cycling provided students with an avenue to bond while enjoying some healthy exercise. Fees for the Pharmily Night Cycling were kept to a minimum to ensure affordability. The event was a great success and met with a high participant rate!

Hand Book Sales
2nd Hand Books from the senior batches were collated and sold to the newer students at a cheaper price, in order to facilitate knowledge exchange and learning.

Jan) Angel and mortal
For the first time in NUSPS history, an Angel and Mortal event was organized with the intention of forging new, inter-year friendships amongst students. More than 50 students took part in this meaningful exchange and we hope to see more participants in the coming years.

Feb) PASS: Pharmacy Alumni Sharing Session (PASS)
Previously Pharmacy Youth Alumni Sharing Session, the Pharmacy Alumni Sharing Session (PASS) 2013 was revamped by the NUSPS Academic Committee to bring more exposure to the Pharmacy cohort. This year’s Sharing Session was spread out over four lunchtime sessions between 28

FEBRUARY
(23rd
Feb) Know Your Medicines, Get It Right @ North West – Chong Pang CC
The first Essential Medicines event by the new committee was a Medicine Review, which was held in Chong Pang. This event saw great participation from the public and even an esteemed appearance by the local Member of Parliament. The event was a great success as the residents were better educated on the proper ways of handling their chronic medications.
(Feb) Retail attachment The Retail Attachment by the Academic Committee gave the students an opportunity to experience Retail Pharmacy even in their freshmen years! The signups were met with great enthusiasm and the students were then despatched to their different locations for learning. This eye-opening experience surely left an impressionable memory in their participants and shed some light on the responsibilities of a retail pharmacist.

nd Mar) Singapore Heart Foundation - Health
Mapping Exercise 1 Health Mapping Exercise (HME) is a service-learning programme that brings free basic health screening services to lower income residents living in one and two room rental flats. Students deployed to these areas were trained in basic, non-invasive screening methods. Through this programme, students are able to see for themselves the importance of taking care of their health now, rather than later. They are also able to apply the knowledge learnt to take better care of themselves and their families.

Mar) NUS Open Day The NUS Open Day was held on 16 March. NUSPS had a booth set-up to brief interested students on the research and experiential opportunities of the NUS Pharmacy Programme. It was an interesting experience to see the fresh-faced students who could possibly join our ranks as future Pharmacy students.

Mar) Interyear sports day
The first of two Inter-Year Sports Day was held on 30th
March before the graduating batch left the campus grounds. Monetary prizes were offered as incentives for participating teams in the Inter-Year Sports Day.
(Mar) In-House and External Lab Visits With convenience and accessibility in mind, the lab sessions were arranged to be in NUS during lunchtime breaks, whereby students can join in visits to labs inaccessible to public as well as take part in a guided tour.
(Mar) UROPs booth The UROPS booth set up aimed to educate the students on the possible UROPS opportunities that await the Pharmacy Students. This was great exposure for the students, many of whom seem unaware of the possible UROPS projects. Through this event, pharmacy and other science students learned more about research opportunities in their undergraduate life.
APRIL

Apr) Examination Welfare Pack
As AY 12/13 Semester II drew to a close, the Welfare Committee assembled an Examination Welfare Pack in order to motivate the students to study for their upcoming finals!

Apr) Singapore Heart Foundation - Health Mapping Exercise 2
The second HME saw an increase in participants, increasing coverage to 81 households. Screening for these HME events often require unconventional approaches due to equipment constraints in these needy households.
MAY (18
th May) FoS Open house Faculty of Science’s own Open House is held on 18 May.
Students admitted into the Faculty of Science were welcomed to the event and the Pharmacy booth aimed to let new students, as well as their guardians, know more about our programme. Sign-ups for the freshmen orientation camp were also opened to the students. This publicity event helped to clear many misconceptions of the local pharmacy programme offered by the department.
(May - August) Foreign Exchange Student Programme
A total of six foreign exchange students from countries such as Slovakia were hosted in Singapore during the Summer Holidays. These students were brought to retail outlets to learn more about retail pharmacy practice in Singapore. They are also brought on guided student tours around the local attractions in order to create a memorable and uniquely Singapore experience for them.
JUNE
(June)Dispense-A-Dream 2013
Over the year, the Pharmacy OCIP team has been hard at work, organising several fundraisers in order to raise funds for their trip to Nepal. This year is no different. Their year-long planning cumulated in a two-week long trip that saw them building a classroom for the local school. It was an enriching experience for all involved and all for a good cause.
(June) HRSA Regulatory Visit This year’s visit to HSA was very well-received by the student
body. It allowed participants to have a rare glimpse into the life of a regulatory pharmacist. This elusive role of the pharmacist is hence made clearer to the interested students. Do look out for sign-ups this year as this visit has limited vacancies!
JULY
(1-5 Jul) Freshmen Orientation Camp 2013
This year’s Freshmen Orientation Camp was held in the first week of July 2013! It served as a platform to promote bonding amongst the freshmen. Through the camp, the freshmen are encouraged to mingle with the seniors through games and even Secret Pal meetings. The event was an exciting start to many students’ tertiary life!

Aug) Freshmen Orientation Week 2013
The yearly Freshmen Orientation Camp was held in the last week of July 2013! It was an early glimpse into life as a pharmacy student. While time was catered to events such as module-bidding, fun was not forgotten. The freshmen partook in many team-building games that served as a means to bond them as the freshmen cohort. To the incoming freshmen… Welcome to the Pharmily!

IPSF world congress @ Utrecht the Netherlands
The IPSF World Congress is the largest annual event organised by the IPSF. It was held from the 30th of July to the 9th of August 2013 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The ten days educational and scientific programme consists of symposia, workshops, pharmacy competitions, a public health campaign and the annual General Assembly of the IPSF. All congress sessions are under the umbrella of this years’ main theme: “Global Healthcare for the Individual Patient”. Moreover, an extensive social programme and cultural events are also part of the programme. During the event, pharmacy students from all over the world were given the chance to learn about issues relevant to them. They also discussed the future of the pharmacy profession and their roles in shaping it.

Aug) NUSSU Rag & Flag2013 The NUSSU Rag and Flag 2013 saw the submission of the Pharmacy float and performance! After weeks of hard work in preparation, the RAG team pulled off a stunning performance; The FLAG team also did great, pulling in a great amount of funds to help the needy.

Aug) Interyear sports day The second biannual Inter-Year Sports Day held in August marked the first Sports Day that the new freshmen took part in. All the seniors were proud to welcome these new and enthusiastic freshmen into our Pharmily!

Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Congress @ Tokyo, Japan
APPS is an annual pharmaceutical symposium organised by the Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) of the IPSF. It was held n Tokyo Bay Area, Japan. The programme consists of educational and scientific symposia, workshops, pharmacy competitions, a public health campaign and the annual Regional Meeting of the APRO. Social and cultural events are also part of the event, including a Miss Pharmacy contest. During the event, pharmacy students from the Asia Pacific region were given the opportunity to learn and interact with their international peers. They also discussed the direction in which the region should go in order to advance the Pharmacy profession in their countries.

Aug) Pharmacy Dinner and Dance
The first, annual Pharmacy Dinner and Dance took place on 24 August to a great turn-out. Exciting programmes such as the Pharmacy X-Factor impressed the audience and fun was had by all. This year’s festivities definitely left the audience anticipating next year’s event!

Aug) Know Your Medicines, Get It Right @ North West – Clementi
The second E-Med Medicine Review event was held in Clementi. Due to the haze in June, this event was delayed till August. The event went off without a hitch and was a great hit amongst the residents. The participants who took part were very pleased with the programmes and equally tickled by the presence of the Pharmacy Mascot, Mr. Capsule!
