local colorARTIST MICHAEL SOSIN’S EYE-CATCHING VASES CONTINUE THE TRADITION OF EXQUISITE ART AVAILABLE AT LONGHOUSE RESERVE.
LONGHOUSE RESERVE HAS LONG HAD A RELATIONSHIP with gorgeously forged glass. “The first
time that Dale Chihuly hung a chandelier in a tree occurred at LongHouse in 1996,” says Dianne Benson,
president and INstore curator. “This outdoor glass exhibition at LongHouse was the precursor of many
famous art glass installations, from the canals of Venice to The New York Botanical Garden.” The tradition
continues with Michael Sosin’s appealing glass vases, infused with what Benson calls “the vibrant colors and
contemporary vibe” of the artist’s coastal home. Arrange the vases “with or without flowers,” suggests
Benson. “A grouping of them becomes a design statement unto itself, especially if placed where they catch
the light.” INstore at LongHouse Reserve, 133 Hands Creek Road, East Hampton, 329-3568; longhouse.org H
SAND DARLINGMark your stylish space on Coopers Beach with Roberta Roller Rabbit’s Jemina towel.
“Beloved across cultures around the world, elephants add good karma to any house,” says
Ellie Cullman, cofounder of interior design firm Cullman & Kravis and author of the
forthcoming coffee-table tome The Detailed Interior: Decorating Up Close with Cullman &
Kravis (The Monacelli Press), about C. Wonder’s eye-catching Happy Elephant Plate.
C. Wonder’s SVP of merchandising and production Jon Zeiders was inspired by an eye-
opening voyage to India and “the imperial elephants of Rajasthan in Jaipur,” he says. “They are
known for their opulent jeweled headdresses and beautiful attire.”
Zeiders—who notes that matching pillows, drink stirrers, and cocktail picks are also in season
at C. Wonder’s two Hamptons pop-up locations—recommends using the playful plate as a
display-worthy accent for collecting spare change, keys, or jewelry, or as a candy dish. Cullman,
meanwhile, suggests the plate “could dress up any coffee table as a dish for nuts. And at a bar, the
plate could hold lemons and limes.” 5 Main St., Southampton, 287-2645; 48 Main St., East Hampton,

BUY DESIGN
The design of Roberta Roller Rabbit’s
bright, beckoning Jemina beach towel grew
from fascinating origins—“a very old piece
of printed fabric I found in an antique fabric
shop in Jaipur,” explains designer-boutique
owner Roberta Freymann. “It looked
nothing like the actual print, but it gave me
the idea.” However, the towel’s print is no
match for what Freymann names as its real
appeal: chic utility. “Clients love that one
side is terrycloth and the other is printed
cotton, but mostly that they are generously
sized. It makes it easy to lounge with your
little ones!” 53D Jobs Lane, Southampton,
259-2566; robertarollerrabbit.com

“NOTHING’S BETTER THAN A MORNING MUFFIN AND HOT CUP OF COFFEE”
A Letter From The Artist
IN THIS ISSUE
he Simple Stuff to Smile for,” is a motto I made up myself. As I grew up surrounded by my mother’s artwork and my father’s collection of books, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff,” I realized the value and significance of appreciating the simple things in life, something as simple as giving a smile, reading a thoughtful card, or enjoying a cupcake.
Art is a passion that I perform and express to show people me.
Like my art, I present myself as a blank canvass to other people’s perspectives, always open to new ideas, however unconventional, with ultimate positivity and enthusiasm. By allowing myself to be flexible to new ideas, my high energy actually ends up enriching my art by cracking new pathways towards instant inspiration. My consistent smile allows me to engage people instantly, even before words are exchanged. With my drive to succeed, I learned the huge impact that confidence and enthusiastic visual expressions can make on a person in a matter of seconds and the ultimate reality that a positive attitude can make or break you. From constructing art, to shooting a smile, and to ultimately living my life, I live believing that the true secret of success is enthusiasm and appreciation for the simple stuff, like the joy I get from having my muffin and coffee in the morning. I am both an artist and a self-driven individual who lives my life, day-by-day, with a carpe diem attitude.
This photo was taken by my friend as I was sipping water from a water fountain in Rome, Italy. I made this cover through photo manipulation in Photoshop CS5, deleting elements of the photo such as my bag and enhancing the color to make the photo more impressionable.
