An Economic Blueprint

By The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad The Black man in America faces a serious economic

problem today and the white race’s Christianity cannot solve it. You, the so-called American Negro, with the help of Allah can solve your own problem.

The truth must be recognized by the Black man. He, himself, has assisted greatly in creating this serious problem of unemployment, insecurity and lack. Before the black man can begin to gain economic security, he must be awakened

from the dead and gain knowledge, understanding and wisdom which will enable him to follow my teachings. Islam and only Islam will point the way out of the entanglement of

“want in the midst of plenty” for the followers of Islam, the true religion of the black nation.

Know thyself and be yourself. Islam makes a true brother to brother. If this be true, how can a believer (Muslim) be a true brother to another believer and boycott his brother and support the enemy? The believers in truth, Islam, must stop looking up to the white race for justice and take the following steps to correct this problem.

Acknowledge and recognize that you are a member of the Creator’s nation and act accordingly. This action, in the name of Allah, requires you, as a Muslim, to set an example for the lost-found, your brothers in the wilderness in North America. This requires action and deeds, not words and lip service.

The following blueprint shows the way:

1. Recognize the necessity for unity and group operation (activities).

2. Pool your resources, physically as well as financially.

3. Stop wanton criticisms of everything that is black-owned and black-operated.

4. Keep in mind — jealousy destroys from within. 5. Observe the operations of the white man. He is

successful. He makes no excuses for his failures. He works hard in a collective manner. You do the same.

If there are six or eight Muslims with knowledge and experience of the grocery business — pool your knowledge, open a grocery store—and you work collectively and harmoniously, Allah will bless you with success.

If there are those with knowledge of dressmaking, merchandising, trades, maintenance—pool such knowledge. Do not be ashamed to seek guidance and instructions from the brother or sister who has more experience, education and training than you have had. Accept his or

her assistance. The white man spends his money with his own kind,

which is natural. You, too, must do this. Help to make jobs for your own kind. Take a lesson from the Chinese and Japanese and go give employment and assistance to your own kind when they are in need. This is the first law of nature. Defend and support your own kind. True Muslims do this.

Because the so-called American Negro has been deceived and misled, he has become a victim of deception. He is today in the worst economic condition of North America. Unemployment is mounting, and he feels it most. He assisted in reducing himself to his present insecure economic condition. You, the black man, are the only

members of the human race that deliberately walk past the place of business of one of your own kind—a black man—and spend your dollars with your natural enemy. The so-called American Negro has never in the history of America been known to boycott or criticize the white man as he does his own kind. He thus shows love for his enemy and hatred for his own kind.

A true Muslim would never boycott the place of business of his fellow Muslim or black brother. A true Muslim is proud of the success of his black sisters and brothers. He recognizes that their success is his success. He recognizes the law of Islam. If one brother has a bowl of soup you have half of that soup.

Blacks would have been

far better off if the BRITISH had won the

Revolutionary War

When in 1770, Crispus Attucks and a mob of Bostonians confronted the British soldiers, the Red Coats thought little of it

before they shot him dead. Unbeknownst to anyone involved, Attucks became the first casualty of the American Revolution, even though he and his people had nothing to gain by siding with the colonists.

George Washington and his rebels were slave-owners who stated plainly that under his new rulership Blacks would remain slaves forever. The British, on the other hand, offered Blacks land and a form of freedom, if they fought for the Crown against the rebellious American colonists. Hearing of this offer, at least 17 of Washington’s own Black captives escaped to join the British in 1781. So when Attucks showed up with a mob of “sturdy boys & negroes” to be the first bull’s-eye of the Boston Massacre, many still wonder what he could have gained from such behavior.

John Adams, the future president of the new, rebellious nation, was a lawyer in Boston at the time and actually defended the

British soldiers in court. He blamed the negro for the whole sordid affair: Attucks, he said, was one of “a motley rabble of saucy boys, negroes and molattoes, Irish teagues and outlandish jack-tarrs.” Adams continued in his courtroom defense of the British:

This Attucks…appears to have undertaken to be the hero of the night; and to lead this army with banners…to have this reinforcement coming down under the command of a stout mulatto fellow, whose very looks was enough to terrify any person, what had not the [British] soldiers then to fear? He had hardiness enough to fall in upon them, and with one hand took hold of a bayonet, and with the other knocked the man down: this was the behavior of Attucks… The white soldier was [of course] found “not guilty.” And

Attucks would not be the only Black man to suffer for an alien cause. Despite the posthumous fame applied to white revolutionary fighters, most “men of substance” kept far out of harm’s way. In fact, by 1778, according to historian Robert A. Gross, “[t]he war was now being fought principally by landless younger sons, by the permanent poor, and by blacks.” As the war went on, the town of Concord, the proud birthplace of the American Revolution, could only supply men described as “poorer and more degraded in status”—the brave minutemen of Massachusetts legend were nowhere to be found.

Colonial Uncle Tom: Jupiter Hammon

Jupiter Hammon (born 1711–[died between 1790-1806])

passed his entire life as the property of the wealthy and influential Lloyd family of Long Island, New York. He believed he was so favorably situated in slavery that he actually preferred to remain a slave than to go free. In his “Address to the Negroes of the State of New York,” Hammon outwardly grieves about the condition of his “dear brethren”: “when I think of your ignorance and stupidity, and the great wickedness of the most of you, I am pained to the heart.” He admonishes the Blacks who dream of freedom to perish the thought and come to their senses:

[F]or my own part I do not wish to be free…for many of us who are grown up slaves, and have always had masters to take care of us, should hardly know how to take care of ourselves; and it may be more for our own comfort to remain as we are.

Hammon was taught to read and write and he often wrote pro-slavery propaganda in the form of poetry, for which he was widely known. Here is a sample entitled “A Dialogue Entitled the Kind Master and the Dutiful Servant”:

Master: Come my servant, follow me, According to thy place; And surely God will be with thee And send thee heav’nly grace.

Servant: Dear Master, I will follow thee According to thy word…

Hammon descended from the white heavens just long enough to reveal the ultimate aim of his brand of “Christianity” as purely economic: “It is very wicked for you not to take care of your masters goods, but how much worse is it to pilfer and steal from them…God will certainly punish you for stealing and for being unfaithful.”

In a chilling appeal that forms the cornerstone of the Uncle Tom mission in America, Hammon exhorts his fellow captives to accept enslavement: “Let me beg of you my dear African brethren, to think very little of your bondage in this life, for your thinking of it will do you no good.”

“Black and white met with kisses, and the effort of a long-haired sophomore to maintain his supercilious dignity, was quite

ineffectual to kill the kindness of a fat mulatto woman, who joyfully and pathetically shouted, as she caught him off the

gang-plank, ‘Oh Massa George, is you come back!’ Field negroes, standing by, looked on with their usual besotted

expression, and neither offered nor received greetings.” --Frederick Law Olmsted
