2016 CASH CALENDARNobles & Ladies,The 2016 CASH CALENDARS have been on sale since August. This year we are hoping to sell all 1200 of them. In order to do that we will need your help. Everyone knows someone who would buy a 2016 CASH CALENDAR all you have to do is ask them. Don’t forget the 15% commission your unit or club will get for each calendar you sell. Good

luck and Sell, Sell, Sell.

Greetings Nobles, Although the year is fast coming to an end, we still have many events scheduled. Although First Lady Dee and I will be gone the first part of October on our Potentate’s trip, a beautiful cruise of the New England/Canada area, on our return it will be business as usual. Our October business meeting will be at Pulaski Hall at 7p with dinner at 6p. If you haven’t been to a meeting lately, come on out for some great socializing with the Nobles and learn of the great projects and activities going on at your Shrine Temple. Our annual Shrine Circus kick-off is scheduled on October 21 at Circus Park. We will open at 6p with a meal and then an informational period chaired by Chief Rabban Dave Karcher and Circus chairman P.P. Ron Stanley. Many changes have been made due to new owners of the Flint area arena. Make

sure you don’t miss this very important informative session. Remember, the success of our circuses depends on the efforts of the nobility. Your assistance is needed to insure success. October 23/24 are the dates for the fall Scottish Rite session at Consistory. This is a very fine time to renew your friendship with your Scottish Rite brothers and ask a brother to join an important part of our Masonic family. Our annual Halloween party will be on the 25th of October at Pulaski Hall. Information can be found in this issue of the Arabian Knights. Nobles, I would like to thank all of the clubs/units and nobles for their support on our plaque and paper sales. The donations you have made to our hospitals and transportation has been nothing but outstanding. This is a tremendous assist in getting our children the excellent treatment and care provided by Shriners Hospitals. Keep up the good work. With the completion of the repair, staining, and replace-ment of the picnic tables, our pavilion project is now complete. If you haven’t seen the improvements, stop by and take a peek. I know you will like what you see. Nobles, our fall ceremonial at Circus Park on November 7th is fast approaching. Please try to bring a candidate or two. Membership is key to our existence. We are going to put a strong membership committee together in the near future with some interesting incentives to those who bring in new nobles. Our telemed room is almost complete and we have partnered with Covenant Hospital in Saginaw for tech and medical support. Assistant Rabban Bill Harper has put in many hours on this project and is to be commended. Many other nobles have also been active by doing research, raising funds and spreading the word about this important endeavor. We are planning an open house when the telemed room becomes operational. This will be a good time to witness the equipment in action. What a fantastic addition to our Shrine Center this will be. Please attend as many of our social events as you can. Without your support we cannot succeed. So in closing, remember to honor your Blue Lodges and also remember a brother in need.

Yours in the FaithChuck Frisby

Greetings Nobles, As you read this article, our year is quickly coming to an end. Your labors have resulted in many successes this year and without your support and contributions, none of this would have been possible. Our pavilion was completed after years of neglect. What a great improvement. We even had a local Boy Scout work-ing on his Eagle Scout project re-finish the picnic tables and do some landscaping around the pavilion. What a difference !! Our tele-med room is finished and we are now in the process of ap-plying for grants and assistance for the equipment necessary to

complete the project. Thank you so much for the units which had to relocate their equip-ment and also those who volunteered their time to make this move happen. Our June ceremonial resulted in welcoming 17 new Nobles to our fraternity. Thanks to the sup-port of our Nobles, this was a great time. I cannot thank the participating units and clubs for their support. Nobles, we still have some fun events scheduled for the rest of the year. Our family picnic on August 16th will be a blast. Please attend, bring your family and friends, and most of all, bring a potential candidate to show off our Shrine fellowship and family fun. Remember, no charge for this event. No excuse for not coming at that price !! The GLSA on September 16 -20th sponsored by Zenobia Shrine at Perrysburg, Ohio, is also fast approaching. Details can be found in this issue of the Arabian Knights with instructions and schedule of events. The GLSA has assigned us to the Holiday Inn Express which is right across the street from the host hotel. The rates are less expensive and we will provide transportation to and from if necessary. Those of you going on the Potentates Cruise in October, if you have not received information on the trip by now, please let Dee or me know so we can forward any needed informa-tion to you. Please plan on attending our Halloween Kids party October 25th at Pulaski Hall in Saginaw. Lets have another blow out party like our Easter Party which saw a record 400 + attend. The more the merrier. Let us show who and what the Shriners are all about. Lets stop being the best kept secret and become the best known secret. Nobles, our September meeting will be in Saginaw rather than Circus Park. Please attend the business meetings. We are short on members at our meetings and I do not think that 40-50 members should speak for 1500+. It is YOUR Shrine Center, please support it. I will be visiting clubs and units until my term is up. If you have a special function, please let me know. I will try my best to attend. Until then, please support your Blue Lodges and keep in your prayers and thoughts those who cannot attend.

Yours in the Faith, Charles Frisby - Potentate, Elf Khurafeh Shriners

Greetings from the Motorcycle Drill Team. We have had a very busy summer. The Team picked over 20 parades to perform in this summer. As you might know, Michigan has a short riding season compared to some other states, but thankfully we don’t have the extreme heats that go with the longer riding seasons. We are still in need of more riders, as our numbers keep dwindling. One member sold his bike due to medical issues, one is involved in moving grandkids between states, and one came to the opinion that kid games should be left for the kids after he broke his leg, therefore miss-ing the rest of the riding season. What luck we have had. At least we have not had any crashes and don’t want any. Sooo, if you know of anyone that may be interested in playing in the street with his 1000cc or larger full dress motorcycle, please give him our info. There are a number of individuals that would like to help the Shrine and our cause, but need the nudge to get going on that aspiration. To practice for doing our maneuvers, tell them to do u-turns, and they are ready to go; it’s that simple. We are now in company with a new Indian motorcycle, Ron Grundberg of Metamora had a refute with a certain popular bike company, and got an Indian motorcycle. He is in love with the new bike and handles it very well, and since he has received his name bar for his uniform, he is referred to as “Broken Arrow” less often. A small contingent of the Team are going to the Great Lakes conference and competition. As we did not have time to practice for this competition, we will be going to Perrysburg, Ohio as assist persons, and may try our hand at the obstacle course competition only. We will proudly announce any winnings. The pictures submitted in the last issue of the Arabian Knight paper and this months; are courtesy of a long time friend Mandy Rindhage of Oxford, MI. Mandy has become our un-official but very consistant photographer, and assist in clearing the roadway of parade specta-tors so we can safely perform our maneuvers. A BIG shout out to Mandy and Thank you. As we are closing in on our last parade for the season (in Caro) we still look forward to that nice day for just another ride. We don’t have to go anywhere particular, just go for a ride. As winter sets in, most of our Team members are involved in other Masonic and civic endeavors which fills the void of riding, but not quite…

Just what’s going on in that room at Circus Park?Or the other title could be what is TeleMedicine and why should Elf

Khurafeh be involved in that issue? The easy answer to both questions is Elf Khurafeh and TeleMedicine is the next logical step to our responsibilities to “our kids.’ As Shriners our Philanthropic focus has always been to the care of those children who have been burned or suffer from the result of orthopedic issues. We formally treat these children from birth sometimes until they reach the age of 18 or until our World Class physicians feel we have provided them with the best life possible. Individual Shrine Centers raise money for our Hospitals and we transport these children to the hospitals for treatment. For the parents of these children the treatment is without regard to the parent’s ability to pay for their children’s care. Enter now technology. Some of us watched our television sets as Neil Arm-strong walked on the moon. Think back to that evening and the excitement and pride we all experienced. Now take a deep breath all you “old guys” and remember Walter Cronkite telling us that Armstrong’s pulse rate only raised slightly. How did he know? Armstrong was linked through a very primitive form of TeleMedicine. All that became public to us in 1969 almost 46 years ago. We are not the first; however, Elf Khurafeh is on the threshold of changing the way we aid in the treatment of our “Shrine Kids.” Simply put a Physician in Chicago, who is also licensed in Michigan, will check over his or her patient in “real time” using the TeleMedicine equipment at Circus Park. These will be patients who are able to be seen through the Elf Khurafeh Tele- Medicine facility. Not all patients will be appropriate and the physician will select pa-tients who are able to be seen using this facility. There are 2 different monitors for the Doctor to review and our patient can speak with the Doctor no differently than using the speaker mode on a cell phone. We will have a trained person to assist the Doctor at the Tele Med Room who will carry out the physician’s (in Chicago) instructions. Since the Doctor can see everything on the High Definition monitors and watch how the patient reacts and moves, the appointment outcome is no different except there is no 10 hours of driving, no hotel expense, no necessary loss of 2 days’ work for the parents and the expense of replacing a van every 5 years will change for the future. In researching our Transportation Expenses over the last 4 years we found that almost half of the “kids” we transport are for what the Hospital considers checkups. These checkups can take as little as 10 minutes to a long as less than a half hour. Then 2 drivers, a child and a parent are back in the Shrine Van for a 5 hour trip back to Michi-gan after a dinner on the road. TeleMedicine can potentially save our Shrine Center approximately a Million Dollars over the next 10 years. This savings will allow Elf Khurafeh the option of expanding our services to other areas. This will not eliminate the need for Transportation Drivers since we will continue to have a need for our Shrine Kids to go to Chicago and Cincinnati and now to Circus Park. The new Tele Medicine effort may also eliminate the need for Transportation to purchase a new van each year. There has been significant support from some of our Clubs and Units to get this project off the ground and there is a need for some volunteers to act as Greeters when we start seeing children. Initially we can project a couple days a month to start and there is some interest from Shrine Centers other than Elf Khurafeh to join in to take advantage of the potential savings. At this time only one doctor in Chicago is creden-tialed to practice in Michigan however, there is an effort to add more doctors to be able to utilize our efforts. We will be having an Open House for all Nobles and our community Friends to introduce our latest venture. The dates will be announced and all are invited. If you are in the area between now and then stop in and take a look at what your Elf Khurafeh leadership is doing.
