  • LineHorizontal - shows stability - width - order. These lines need to be straight (parallel) or they give a feeling of unrest.

Vertical: Power, Strength, Height. Make sure they are straight and do not overlap

Diagonal: Give a sense of motion or action

Implied: Lines that are not drawn or seen but that the brain interprets to be there.

Repeated lines of the same type increase the effect. Many lines of different types make for interesting pictures. Don’t forget to try turning your camera both ways and that shadows make great lines.

  • Shape

    ● Interesting and defined shapes make interesting photographs.● Try to make sure that you include interesting shapes in the foreground and

background that frame your subject.● Silhouettes are powerful shapes.

  • Space● It refers to the area that a shape or form occupies. ● Space can be defined as positive or negative. ● Positive space is the filled space, the object(s) or element(s) in the design.

  • Form● At its most basic, a form is a three-dimensional geometrical figure - the whole of a piece's visible

elements and the way those elements are seen● The form pertains to the volume or perceived volume - the angle of composition can impact this

greatly as can foreground object to give perspective

  • Colour● There are three properties to color● The first is hue, which simply means the name we give to a color (red, yellow, blue, green, etc.).● The second property is intensity, which refers to the vividness of the color. A color's intensity is sometimes referred to as its its

"saturation", its “richness”● The third property of color is its value, meaning how light or dark it is.

Colours have TEMPERATURE which affects the mood of your image.

  • Texture:● the way a three-dimensional work actually feels when touched, or the visual "feel" of a two-

    dimensional work.

  • Value● Value deals directly to light.● We might refer to these as “Brightness” and Contrast
