ELEMENTARY ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS 24
All Elementary students will have access to selected Eagle Pathway Athleticsthroughout the year. The focus of these will be on ‘fun fundamental’ skilldevelopmentandplayinapositivesportingatmospherewithaviewtogetmorechildreninvolvedintryingtheseactivitiesandattemptingnewsports.Assuggestedbythe‘pathway’term,thefocusonskilldevelopmentwillbeageappropriateforeachgradelevel.
Wehave adopted theEagleAthleteDevelopmentModel as thebasis for thedevelopmentofallSASstudentathletesinEaglePathwaysports.Basedontheinternationally recognizedLongTermAthleteDevelopmentModel, thismodelidentifies age-appropriate expectations for children for their participation inathletics.IntheEAAprogram, thiswillmean:
• Kindergarten to fifth-grade pathway programs will focus on structured skilldevelopmentspecifictoeachsporttheyparticipatein.
• Therewillbenocutsandnoability-basedsortinginfifthgradeorbelowforpathwaysports,whichmeansthatallstudentswhocomeouttoplayapathwaysportwillbeabletoparticipate(dependingonspaceavailability).
• Emphasizethebenefitsofsportsseasonsandencouragestudentstoparticipateinmultipleactivitiesthroughouttheyear.
• The intention of the pathway opportunities is for as many children as possible to try either one or both sports offered for their grade level each season. As such, we encourage families to register for only one day of a sport per week. However, families can choose to register for the same sport twice a week.
