Increasingly severe and tighterproduct specificationsVery too often the need for automation isrelated to high sample rates and to laborcost savings.

However, the growing demand forautomation in countries where labor costsare very low shows that these criteria arenot decisive anymore compared to theimproved quality of the results and to thereduction of sample processing times.

samples in a manual instrument. As anoption, the system can be factoryconfigured, customized and fine tunedaccording to your particular needs beforedelivery. The operator is guided throughyour. sample registration procedure andvalidity checks are applied to avoidmistakes. Samples lists and pre-definedchoices allow for reducing typing to aminimum and to automate the selectionof operational parameters such asanalytical programs.

• Unattended instrument monitoringEnsuring that the automated metalsanalyzer permanently delivers qualityresults is another important functionwhich can be fully automated.

This SMS-2000 EL option provides alarge capacity and universal magazine forthe storage of up 45 control samples,standards and monitor samples. Controlsamples can be supplied by our company toregularly verify the instrument performanceand to detect possible anomalies.

Automatic instrument standardizationis triggered by the system when necessaryusing standards called setting-up samples.

Alarms are produced when manualinterventions are required to prevent thesystem going out-of-control.

Monitors can be used to align theinstrument response on reference valuesfor specific alloys.

For certification purposes, theinstrument analytical performance can bepermanently recorded and visualized in theform of control charts (SPC-Full option).

The SPC-Full software is not merelylimited to the instrument monitoring; itcan be applied automatically toproduction samples to evaluate themanufacturing performance in terms ofgrade specification limits and to identifyproduction savings opportunities.

• Automatic sample preparationWhen the sample rates increase, themanual preparation becomes thebottleneck. The preparation of samplesmust then be automated not to affect theproduction capacity.

For the best possible speed of operation, theautomation and the control of the samplepreparation is then distributed to a second PCwhich works separately and independently ofthe Thermo Scientific metals analyzer PC.

• High end ARL 4460 metals analyzerAt the heart of the SMS-2000 EL systemis the ARL 3460 metals analyzer, the mostwidely used optical emissionspectrometer in the world with aninstalled base of nearly 6000 units.

When ultimate analyticalperformance and speed are required, theARL 4460 metals analyzer is the idealchoice. It offers an enhancement to theARL 3460 version to analyze carbon,nitrogen and oxygen in steels at lowlevels with the CNO option. It alsoperforms metals cleanness evaluationsusing the unique Spark-DAT extension.
