FRE 201

Projet Final

2015

Electronic presentation

Your final project for FRE 201 will be to create an audiovisual presentation of 2-3 minutes. Because there

were so many problems and errors with varying software and delivery methods for the midterm project, I

am asking all of you to use either PowerPoint or Movie Maker1 to create the project and then to load

your files onto Google Drive and send me the link. I have attached a set of instructions to help you with

these programs (see p. 3). At the end of the instructions you will also find links to online tutorials if you

need further assistance (see p. 8).

Subject:

In chapter 5 of Bien vu, bien dit we discussed the use of past tenses to create narration about either

collective or individual history. For your project, you will compose a narration within this scope. You will

narrate an event from your own past. These events may be true or completely fictional, so long as they are

clearly defined and narrated. The script must be your own composition.

Questions you might consider as you choose and prepare your topic:

Format:

Your project must consist of a single electronic file [un fichier] which includes both images and narration.

Approximately 2-3 minutes in length

Images may include photos, drawings, or video

Narration must be synchronized with the images and the presentation must play through

independently

Narration must be you speaking in French2

1 Both PowerPoint and Movie Maker should be available on the campus computer system. Movie Maker will allow you to use

individual slides or video footage. Please take some time to consider how to make best use of these apps for your particular

project. Whether you choose slides or video, the program needs to play independently once it has been started. That is, once I

click on “play,” the file, audio and visual, must run through to the end without further intervention or clicking on my part. 2 This is not to say that you cannot include some music or sound effects if you like, but those are not required.

Grammatical content:

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate your ability to talk about the past in French. Try to include a

variety of vocabulary and also of the grammatical structures we have studied so far this semester (see the

chapter review sheets). You certainly don’t have to include them all, but you must demonstrate some

use of both the present and past tenses and some stress should be made on appropriate use of passé

composé and imparfait.

Timeline:

The complete electronic file is due no later than 12:00 (noon) on the last day of class (Monday,

December 14). See the attached instructions for the means of submitting them.

Grading criteria:

Oral content (relevance to topic, organization, variety, creativity, use of appropriate vocabulary

and correct grammar)

Comprehensibility (pronunciation, intonation, fluidity, volume)

Visual content (relevance to topic, organization, creativity)

Overall technical quality of file (e.g., Are the images clear? Is the narration loud enough? Does

the file run independently?)

Does the presentation meet the criteria of the assignment?

Please note:

This assignment is not looking for a list of answers to the questions offered above. Those are

provided simply to help you get started. They will not all be pertinent to all topics.

The language aspect of your presentation should take precedent above all other components.

Academic misconduct:

Having a classmate or other person complete this composition in whole or in part constitutes cheating and

will result in an investigation into academic misconduct. This includes having another person “look it over”

before you submit it.

Copying your composition in whole or in part from an outside source constitutes plagiarism and will result

in an investigation into academic misconduct.

Use of an online translating program constitutes cheating and will result in an investigation into academic

misconduct
