QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; For in thee can we live in safety. Lord, keep this nation under thy care; And guide us in the way of justice and truth. Let thy way be
known upon earth; Thy saving health among all nations.
Parish Calendar Worship
Hoping to See You at Mass Soon! Daily Mass is now open to nine (9) people attending – 11:25am M-F at St. Joseph campus, 8am Saturday at St. John campus. At St. Joseph campus, only the Mainstreet entrance will be open before Mass; at St. John campus, only the Preston Lane parking entrance will be open before Mass.
The following procedures are in place, subject to change:
• Sign up for a Mass on our website: http://stgabrielhopkins.org/welcome/weekly-calendar, or call the parish office: 952-935-5536. Please limit yourself to one Mass until everyone has a chance to attend.
• Those over age 65 will be strongly encouraged not to attend Mass, and anyone showing any symptoms of sickness, or anyone who has a household member who is sick or showing symptoms should not come to church.
• In order to limit the amount of time necessary for cleaning and disinfecting, we ask that you sit only in the open pews (the rest will be taped off), ensuring spacing between each person.
• At this time Holy Communion will not be distributed.
• Books and hymnals have been removed; please feel free to bring your own book or use an application on your phone that will allow you to follow along with the day’s readings.
• Masks are recommended, but not required, and you are encouraged to bring hand sanitizer.
The obligation to attend Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation continues to be suspended as long as the pandemic continues. Fr. Liekhus continues to record and post daily and Sunday Mass to our website: www.stgabrielhopkins.org/worship. The parish office continues to be closed to visitors, but please call if you have any questions.
St. Gabriel Parish needs your continued support: Please help us fund the staff, resources, and operations necessary to support our digital ministry, and to provide for the required sanitization and setup for public Mass, by making a one-time or recurring online donation at: www.stgabrielhopkins.org/give. You can mail in donations, as well. Thank you for your generosity!
Please know that we are praying for you, for all those affected by COVID-19, and for deliverance from this pandemic. We humbly ask for your prayers as well.

MASS INTENTIONS
Small Group Reflection
The Ascension of The Lord
Acts: l:12-14; Psalm 27; I Peter: 4:13-16; John 17:1-11a
The eleven apostles return to Jerusalem and the Upper Room as Jesus had commanded them. They are waiting
united in prayer to be baptized by the Holy Spirit. To receive the Holy Spirit we need to prepare by withdrawing with Mary, the faithful women, and the Apostles to our upper room, our place of prayer to invite a fresh anointing from the Spirit. This is why we attend the Sunday Eucharist: to receive the Son so that we might recognize the Spirit at Pentecost. In the Psalm we are reminded the Lord is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear? I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living. Hear, O Lord, the sound of my call; have pity on me, and answer me. “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.” (Matt: 5:11-12) The common teaching is that this isn’t only the last Beatitude, but the greatest. Peter reframes this victimization as a blessing. They/we must not be cowered by the normal human feelings of shame or disgrace that insults bring. Peter cautions us not to suffer for the wrong things. God has united himself to us in our suffering by suffering in the Person of Jesus, and has made suffering a blessing. Only this can transform suffering from a curse to a source of union with God. In John we focus on Jesus’ work. The work the Father gave him was to form those twelve men to be his disciples so that they would take the Gospel to the ends of the earth and make his message endure through the ages. God wants us today to invest our lives in relationships in order to become a vessel of God’s love and grace for the world. Today’s Gospel carries a powerful lesson for us: like Jesus our real work, the work the Father has given us, is rooted in relationship and discipleship.
• Have you ever had someone say they were going to pray for you and you knew that they really were going to do it?
• What does it feel like to have someone pray for you and your intentions?
• What work has God given you to do?
• What would you want Jesus to ask the Father on your behalf?
• Have you ever been insulted or persecuted for your faith?

SUMMER MINISTRY EVENTS CANCELED
At this time, most summer ministry events have been canceled, including Totus Tuus, the mission trip to Kentucky, and Faith Service Camp.
As things begin to open up, we may be able to schedule some limited ministry activities, so stay tuned! We are also exploring the possibility of doing some youth activities online this summer, such as a book club and a Bible study/prayer group. Watch the bulletin and family emails for more information to come.
If you would like any resources for at-home formation and prayer, please contact Cindy Novak (952-540-4762; [email protected]).
FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY: DELAYED BUT ANXIOUSLY AWAITED!
Our First Communion celebration was originally scheduled for May 3 and will be rescheduled for a different date once we are able to gather again for Mass. In the meantime, here are some more great pictures of our children and
youth taken on May 3 as they anticipate the day of receiving the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Kudos to their parents for working on preparing them for this special sacrament as well—they are doing an awesome job!
St. Gabriel the Archangel Festival Update
Due to the social distancing guide-lines, and to comply with the state guidelines, St. Gabriel’s participation during the Raspberry Festival in July has been canceled.
The Festival Committee is looking for-ward to planning for St. Gabriel’s Festival in September. We are look-ing forward to having a very special event for parishioners, their families and friends. It will also be a great time to welcome Fr. Paul Haverstock to St. Gabriel’s!
See you in September!
Take Out Only Loaves & Fishes continues serving meals out of the St. Joseph campus social hall, Saturday-Tuesday eve-nings, 5:30-6:30pm, take-out only.

Pray for COVID-19 Anointing Corps, Patients, Families and Medical Support Teams
Parishioners across the Archdiocese are invited to prayerfully support those who are suffering most intensely, usually in sterile isolation, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Text archspm-anointing to 55321 or visit eva.us/archspm-anointing to receive a text each time a COVID-19 Anointing Corps Priest is dispatched to give the Last Rites. Upon receipt of the text, those in this ministry commit to take a moment to pray:
One Our Father for the patient who is in danger of death, as they prepare to meet our Heavenly Father face-to-face;
One Hail Mary for the patient’s family and friends, asking the Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Sorrows, to intercede to comfort them; and
One Glory Be in thanksgiving for the priest and for his protection, as well as the medical team attending to the patient.
For more ways to pray for those affected by COVID-19, visit: archspm.org/covid19prayers.
Prayers and Support for Health Care Workers Health care workers: Catholic faithful throughout the archdiocese are dedicated to praying for you! Visit archspm.org/covid19prayers to submit a prayer request. Also find videos of encouragement and support, helpful links and other resources.
Want to join in praying for health care workers? Commit to daily prayer for health care workers by texting archspm-healthcare to 55321 or signing up at eva.us/archspm-healthcare. You will receive a weekly message with a link health care workers to pray for each week.
Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.

The History of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish
Virginia Vonhof and Chuck Romportl have accepted the task of document-ing the history of St. Gabriel’s Parish. This history isn’t very long yet, as our parish was formed on January 1, 2013, just eight years ago! Now seems to be a good time to start re-cording these things, 1) while they are still fresh in our minds, and 2) since we’re coming to the end of the tenure of our founding pastor, Fr. Liekhus. A short survey can be found online at http://stgabrielhopkins.org/welcome/history-survey. Or contact Chuck Romportl 952-451-3017 and a sur-vey can be sent to you. Copies of the survey can also be picked up at the parish office (call ahead). Thank you in advance for sharing your observa-tions and insights!
Litany in Time of Need Archbishop Bernard Hebda asks that the students from every Catholic school in the twelve-county territory of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and the faithful set aside time every day, wherever they may be, to join together in offering the “Litany in Time of Need.” Please join us by tuning in to Relevant Radio 1330am, relevantradio.com, or the Relevant Radio App, where the litany will be broadcast each day at 11:05am. What a wonderful sign of unity it will be to have all of you join our young people, praying together at the same time for protection and help. View the “Litany in Time of Need” online at http://online.flipbuilder.com/tvlw/wqee/.
Together Family Retreat This simple retreat for families is to be done at home, with activity choices that cater to older or younger children. Written and compiled by Andrew and Coreen Wagenbach from St. Paul, the retreat is dedicated to the renewal of family life.
Schedule it on a day that works for you!
Please note: some materials may need to be purchased in advance; see details in the Retreat Guide: https://archspmmainsite.s3.amazonaws.com/Events/2020/Archspm_Family+Retreat.pdf.
May each family use this time of uncertainty and quarantine together to rebuild and deepen the Domestic Church, the seedbed of saints and the hope to the world.
