1. General Description
■ High Productivity The development of the high speed multi head system provides the high speed placement. We have pur-sued also the high operating rate through the reduction in the PC board exchange time, the feature of the chip supply during operation, and the optimum arrangement onto each stage.
■ Versatility It is possible to combine the High Speed head, which perform an ultrahigh speed placement using eight nozzles, and the Multi-functional head, which support various kinds of irregular shaped components. We also support changing head after purchase.
■ Efficient Changeover The multi job production, meaning that only one time preparation enables the production of great many models, is supported. Additionally, the preparation for the next model while the machine is operating, and an offline preparation can be performed. An optimum changeover to your production pattern is possible.
■ High Accuracy Placement Components are placed at high speed and high precision, through the newly developed recognition system, calibration feature, and high speed low vibration control.
2. Features
High Productivity
Placement tact time
Each placement stage has two of heads, recognition systems, and feeder tables. Pick up, recognition, and placement carried out alternately by the two heads with the multi row nozzle (eight nozzles or three nozzles) provide a high speed and high accuracy placement.
The multi head system (two heads) is incorporated into two stages; placement is carried out on each stage at the same time.

Reduction of losses in head movement (CM402-M only)
Because, for CM402-M, the maximum PC board width is 250 mm, the travel of Y-axis in small PC board production is reduced; consequently, a real tact time for small PC board is reduced. * Because a PC board is put in the center of the machine, the number of placement position is one per stage.
PC board exchange time (CM402-L only)
For CM402-L, two PC boards can be clamped on one stage. (PC board length: 240 mm or less) When two PC boards are clamped, after the placement of the PC board on the downstream side is complete, that on the upstream side is carried out continuously. For small sized PC boards (L 240 mm × W 240 mm or less), one PC board is replaced by another within at least 0.9 seconds (*). (That is attainable if no components are placed on the back side, and the side clamp and support pins are not used. The others are based on our measurement conditions.) * The transport time varies depending on such conditions as a PC board size and whether the support pins are used or not.
For further information, please contact us.
Feature of chip supply during operation
CM402-M/L has adopted the tape splicing feature, which allows supplying components while the placement machine is operating without stopping the placement operations. If you register the number of components into the placement machine data beforehand, you will have the notice of component empty.

Support for machine coupling (modularizing)
CM402-M/L supports for coupling (modularizing); multiple machines (up to eight stages) can be coupled.
∗∗ Remarks ∗∗
• Example of coupling: When all the machines are CM402-M/L, up to four of them can be coupled. • If the number of the machines to be coupled exceeds four as a result of the combination of CM402-M/L, the
switching hub needs to be installed on the fifth machine or later.

Versatility
Exchangeable between High Speed head and Multi-functional head
For CM402-M/L, two types of placement heads can be selected for each placement stage. The High Speed head has eight nozzles arranged like 2 × 4 matrix. The servomotor is used for the independent vertical driving of each nozzle, providing a high reliability and high speed operation. The Multi-functional head has three nozzles. Each nozzle is equipped with an independent vertical drive system and θ-drive system. The placement load generated at the nozzle tip can be controlled in real time from 0.5 N up to 50 N, based on the settings of data. For the delivered machine, our engineer supports exchanging heads on the spot. * Please select the head for each stage. It is not possible to set different types of heads to the front and the rear table on the same stage.
Versatility of feeders
Conventional several tens of tape feeders are integrated into eight types of feeders. These eight types of feeders support 8 mm up to 104 mm paper/embossed tape. Tape feeding is driven by the servomotor; feed pitch and feed speed are set according to the components. These parameters are set by the data sent from the CM402-M/L main body.
Valid number of feeders
Up to 108 double tape feeders can be set on CM402-M/L. (When the tape width is 8 mm) At this time, 216 reels can be set. 27 feeders × 2 reels × 4 tables
= 216 of 8 mm tape reels can be set.

Efficient Changeover
Multi job production
Per CM402-M/L, 216 types of components (on an 8 mm tape basis) can be set; when two or three machines are coupled, the taped components to be placed on multiple types of PC boards can be set at a time. The data creating device PS200-G has the feature that apportions the placement data to each stage, taking the multi job production system like this into consideration.
Preparation while the machine is operating
■ Changing feeders during operation It is possible to insert or extract the feeders that are not in use while the machine is operating. That enables you to prepare for the next model during operation.
■ Feeder cart The base where feeders will be set is integral with the feeder cart; therefore, it can easily be set or removed. That enables you to set the feeders for the next model beforehand (Offline preparation). Moreover, the removable feeder setting area that is integral with the changing cart will facilitate the mainte-nance work.
■ Gang changing of support pins In changeover, the PC board support pins need changing; however, CM402-M/L adopts the support pin block system. Since setting the backup pins can be performed with an external preparation jig, only you have to do for changeover is removing and setting the block. * About the support pin blocks CM402-M: Common to CM401-M and DT401-M. Not sharable with CM402-L, DT401-F, CM202/201, and CM301. CM402-L: Common to DT401-F. Not sharable with CM402-M, CM401-M, DT401-M, CM202/201, and CM301.
High Accuracy Placement
■ High resolution camera and newly developed recognition system Wide field and high resolution line camera recognizes minute components like 0603 (0201”) chips up to large sized connectors with high accuracy. And the newly developed recognition system improves not only the recognition accuracy but also the recognition speed. (As compared with our conventional machines, espe-cially the recognition speed against minute components has been improved. However, not all the compo-nents’ recognition speed will not be improved.) As for the placement accuracy, the High Speed head type has achieved ±50 µm (Cpk ≥ 1) for 0603 and 1005; the Multi-functional head type, ±35 µm (Cpk ≥ 1) for QFP. We provide high level narrow adjacent placement.
■ Calibration feature Reassessed calibration program provides high accuracy placement. Automatic calibration feature maintains an initial high precision even during operation. (Each parameter is automatically corrected by periodically recognizing the gauge mark during operation.)
■ High speed low vibration control High speed low vibration control has been introduced to the XY unit operation.

■ Intelligent Stick Feeder The stick feeder supplies components through the stick by vibration. Intelligent stick feeder has improved the ability to support large-sized components, in addition to the tradi-tional merits such as high versatility (*1), quick delivery (*2), and maintenance-free (*3). *1 It supports not only SOP, SOJ, and PLCC but also odd-shaped components such as the connector. *2 With the feeding method that cuts out stick tips (see below), it can feed components as soon as you get them. *3 It needs no particular maintenance except for such cleaning as dust removing.

Component feeding methods Feeding with stick tips cut out Feeding with a guide block (Option)
When components in sticks are level and stable while the sticks are placed in a horizontal position, cut out the stick tips so that the components will be picked up directly from inside the sticks.
When components in sticks are not level and not stable while the sticks are placed in a horizontal position, attach a block (called a guide block) to solve those problems so that the components will be picked up from the guide block. The guide block is created separately according to the component dimensions to be used. How to design the guide blocks is open to the public, so the users can make them.

■ Intelligent Bulk Feeder The bulk feeder supplies components in bulk; it aligns random chips and sends them to the pickup position though vacuum suction. Intelligent bulk feeder has a new function of vacuum ON/OFF control, in addition to the field-proven traditional mechanism in the chip transport section. This function stems the fouling in the vacuum systems to reduce the frequency of maintenance by turning off vacuums when the feeders are not running. As a result, it improves the usability and provides the higher chip-feeding quality than the traditional one.

■ Shuttle Tray Feeder ST40S-20 (Option) Installing the shuttle tray feeder ST40S-20 onto CM402-M/L enables the placement of tray feeding components. ST40S-20 can be installed on the rear side (AR and BR) of CM402-M/L. It cannot be installed on the front side (AF and BF). It cannot be installed to the stage of the high-speed head type. ST40S-20 is composed of the following three units. The unit ① stores and selects trays, the unit ② sends components to the head of CM402-M/L, and the unit ③ acts as a bridge between these two units.
The unit ③ is placed on the top of the unit ① that is self standing at the rear side of CM402-M/L. The unit ② is installed on the feeder cart of CM402-M/L. Precautions in choosing the Shuttle Tray Feeder In choosing the shuttle tray feeder, also the extension conveyor(s) and the like need to be chosen because that projects from the side of CM402-M/L. See the following figures for the installation examples and the extension conveyors to be chosen. ① In installing to the downstream stage
Install the working conveyor to the downstream. (For CM402-L, the extension conveyor supporting shuttle trays can be selected.)
② In installing to the upstream stage
Install the working conveyor to the upstream. (For CM402-L, the extension conveyor supporting shuttle trays can be selected.)
③ In installing to the upstream of the
downstream CM402-M/L when two CM402-M/L are coupled to each other ・ Install the downstream extension conveyor to the upstream CM402-M/L. ・ Install the upstream extension conveyor to the downstream CM402-M/L.
4.5 Dual Conveyor (Option)
When using the dual conveyor, you can switch between the dual lane mode and the single lane mode. In the dual lane mode, while components are being placed in one lane, PC boards can be changed in the other lane. That will make the PCB changing time virtually zero. For the dual lane mode, the PC board specifications are as follows. ・ PC board dimensions: Min. 50 mm × 50 mm to Max. 240 mm × 216 mm ・ Placeable area: Min. 50 mm × 44 mm to Max. 240 mm × 210 mm ・ PC board thickness: 0.3 mm to 4 mm ・ PC board mass: 1.5 ㎏ or less Please note that the dual conveyor is available for CM402-L only.

6.2 Recognition Mark PC board needs two PC board recognition marks at its opposite corners.
■ PC board Recognition Mark Specifications
Standard Mark Shapes Dimensions
○ φ0.5 mm to φ1.6 mm
△ (Equilateral triangle) Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm
□ Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm
Length and width: 0.5 mm to 1.6 mm
Standard Mark Shapes and Dimensions
Length and width means the dimensions of the quadrangle circumscribing the mark.
Mark Materials and Circuit Pattern
Because PC board recognition correction is based on the positional relationship between the marks and the circuit pattern (conductor pattern), the marks must be made in the same process and of the same materials as the circuit pattern from the viewpoint of correction accuracy.
Image Conditions of Mark Materials and PC board Base
Because, basically, mark recognition process is carried out based on the inten-sity difference of reflected light, a fixed contrast is required between the mark materials and the PC board base. This difference varies significantly depending on the plating condition, oxidation condition, surface height, unevenness, degree of mirroring, coating, or distur-bance light; therefore, the assessment of the marks is required beforehand.
Mark Dimensions and Background
The background of a mark requires the noninterference area (larger than fixed dimensions) outside the mark.
Noninterference area
Mark a ≧ 0.2 mm or more
Noninterference area Not all the marks are black.
