Some electric motors are reversible, can transform mechanical energy into electrical energy to operate as generators. The traction motors used in locomotives often perform both tasks if they are equipped with regenerative braking. OPERATING PRINCIPLE: AC motors and DC are based on the same operating principle, which states that if a conductor through which an electric current is within the action of a magnetic field, it tends to move perpendicular to lines of action of the magnetic field. ADVANTAGE: In different circumstances has many advantages over combustion engines: At equal power, size and weight are lower. You can build any size. ELECTRICS MOTORS

DEFINITION:

An electric motor is an electric machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy through electromagnetic interactions. Some electric motors are reversible, can transform mechanical energy into electrical energy to operate as generators. The traction motors used in locomotives often perform both tasks if they are equipped with regenerative braking.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE:

AC motors and DC are based on the same operating principle, which states that if a conductor through which an electric current is within the action of a magnetic field, it tends to move perpendicular to lines of action of the magnetic field.

ADVANTAGE:

In different circumstances has many advantages over combustion engines:

At equal power, size and weight are lower.

You can build any size.

It has a high torque and, depending on the motor constant.

Its performance is very high (typically around 75%, increasing the same as increasing the power of the machine).

Such engines do not emit pollutants, although the generation of electricity in most grids if they emit pollutants.
