Coverage of the electrotechnical
domain (1/2)
• Covered in IEC by 176 Technical Committees and
Subcommittees
• Covered in CENELEC by 75 Technical
Committees and Subcommittees (… 169 SRs : Committees and Subcommittees (… 169 SRs :
“non activated TCs or SCs”)
• In IEC 13 000 experts from 82 countries active
members
• In CENELEC 9 800 experts from 33 countries
Coverage of the electrotechnical domain
(2/2)
• IEC portfolio ~7000 standards
• CLC portfolio ~6700 standards
– ~68% are identical to the IEC standards
– ~7% are based upon the IEC standards– ~7% are based upon the IEC standards
– ~25% are purely European home-grown stds without link
to the IEC stds
• ~75% of the European standards are identical to
or based upon IEC standards
• ~26% of EN are harmonized
TCs and SCs … the access to
technical knowledge …
• Out of the 174 TCs and SCs about 40 are directly
relevant for energy production and transport in
IEC
• To get more go to www.iec.ch for IEC
www.cenelec.eu and look for “List of Technical
Committees”
• Contact IEC/CO or CCMC
• Contact TC or SC Secretaries … they are the ones
aware of all the technical discussions and issues
Technical relevant hot spots in
IEC …
• Smart Grids (Several TCs/SCs involved and more
than 100 stds … already identified !!!!)
• Functional safety (Mainly TC65 with 61508)• Functional safety (Mainly TC65 with 61508)
• Smart electrification (Comprehensive white
paper)
• Renewable energies (4 TCs)
• EMC (TC77 and more … IEC 6100 series)
• To get more go to www.iec.ch
Technical relevant hot spots in
CENELEC …
• Smart Grids (Publication ”Standards for Smart
Grids”)
• Smart meterings
• Energy audits
• Nuclear energy
• To get more go Annual Report and Report on
Technical Activities available at www.cenelec.eu
How to understand and to approach
this very complex context (1/2)…
• We did something similar for nuclear energy in 2010-2012
• Definition of the need (which TC/SCs are relevant, which user needs are not covered by TC/SCs)TC/SCs)
• Analysis of the implementation of the relevant International stds in Europe (with or without modifications, extend of CMs if any) and the consequences
• Identification of the relevant European home grown standards, if any
How to understand this very
complex context (2/2) …
• Many actors involved, nobody has all the
information and collaboration is necessary
(users, CCMC, IEC/CO, TC/SCs Secretaries …)
• Objective a useful shared view of the context
and relevant recommendations to progress …
sort of roadmap
• Possible gradual and phased approach
• See the report on nuclear energy …
Standards in Russian language again
distributed by the IEC …
• The « official languages » in IEC and in CENELEC
• Issue of multiple different versions of a same
standard in Russian language developed locally
• New IEC webstore with some IEC standards
already available in Russian
• More IEC standards to be available in Russian
soon
