Installation instruction for Electrical

Wall Heating System

The installation should be carried out by competent personnel only!

The Wall Heating Systems exists of one or several ready heating cables made from

heating cables fastened to a wire mesh.

The installation is carried out according to the following instruction under consideration

of the following points:

The wall ( Bin Walls, Silo Walls, Filter etc. ) should be smooth and even.

First spot weld a sufficient numbers of holding pins ( Sketch Pos. No. 5 ) onto the to be

Heated surface for fastening the wire mesh.

Then the heating mats ( wire mesh Sketch Pos. No. 1 ) are fastened with the holding clips which

are pushed over the holding pins tightly secured to the Bin ( Filter wall ).

Care should be taken and ensured that the heating mats have good contact to the

surface and no local buckling occurs.

Special care should be taken to the following items:

1. Never bend the cable ( Sketch Pos. No. 2 ) more than once in the same area.

2. Bending radius of the heating cable must not be smaller than 5 times of outer

diameter of heating cable.

3. Where the heating wire is looped over sharp corners sufficient protection must

be ensured.

4. Crossing of the heating cables is forbidden.

The connection of the heating system is done according to the enclosed diagram for

connection and controller box( Sketch Pos. No. 10) .

After application the cold leads ( Sketch Pos. No. 11 ) are connected into the connection boxes.

Make sure that 50 mm before and after the cold connection joint ( Sketch Pos. No. 12 ) there is

no bend.

The temperature sensor of the controller should be firm and secured placed to the lower

third of the Wall ( Filter wall ) the same applies to the minimum temperature sensor if

available ( Sketch Pos. No. 8 ). Controller sensor and minimum temperature sensor must not have

contact to the heating cable.

The temperature sensor of the safety controller / limiter ( Sketch Pos. No. 9 ) is placed directly

onto the heating cable.

For a better heat distribution the heating system should be completely covered with aluminium or

stainless steel foil ( Sketch Pos. No. 4 ).

Before the complete system is permanently insulated the insulation resistance of the heating

cable should be checked with min 500 V. For operating voltage above 500 V with a minimum

of 1000 V.

The heating mats are leaving our works with a minimum insulation resistance of 50 M Ohm.

Mineral-insulated resistance thermometers to EN 60 751

for temperatures from -50 (-200) to +600°C flexible sheath with shock-protected sensor as single or twin resistance thermometer

in 2-wire, 3-wire or 4-wire circuit fast response time application-specific fitting length

Thanks to their special properties, mineral-insulated resistance thermometers are used inchemical plants, power stations, pipelines, in engine construction, on test beds and in allapplications where flexibility and problem-free replacement are required. The low-resist-ance internal copper conductors are embedded in compressed heat-resistant magnesiumoxide inside a flexible thin-walled sheath in stainless steel.

The temperature sensor in 2-wire, 3-wire or 4-wire circuit is connected to the internal wiresand fitted in the stainless steel protection tube. Protection tube and sheath are welded to-gether. Diameters as small as 1.9mm are available.

The excellent heat transfer between the protection tube and the temperature sensor ena-bles short response times (t0.5 from 0.7sec) and high accuracy. The shock-proof construc-tion ensures a long life. The flexible probe tube permits temperature measurement atpoints that are difficult to reach. The smallest bending radius is 5 times the external diam-eter.

The measuring insert is normally fitted with a Pt100 temperature sensor to EN 60 751,Class B in 2-wire circuit. Versions with Pt500 or Pt1000 are also available. 3-wire or 4-wirecircuit connections can be provided.

Technical Data

Switching function

Temperature compensation

Temperature controller TR /temperature monitor TW

If the temperature exceeds the set point value set on the temperature probe, the micro switch will be tripped via the transmission mechanics and the current circuit opened or closed. The micro switch is reset to its origi-nal status once the set point value set is gone below (by the hysteresis).

Safety temperature monitor STW

If the temperature exceeds the set point value set on the temperature probe, the snap switch will be tripped and the current circuit opened or closed. The snap switch is reset to its original status once the set point value set is gone below (by the hysteresis).

If the probe has cooled down to a temperature below approx. -20°C, the current circuit opens, however, auto-matically closes again, when the temperature rises.

If the measuring system is destroyed, i.e. if the expansion fluid emerges, the pressure in the diaphragm drops and permanently opens the current circuit.

Safety temperature limiter STB with restart lock and self-monitoring

If the temperature exceeds the switching point set on the temperature probe, the snap switch is tripped, the current circuit opened and the snap switch mechanically locked.

The snap switch can be manually unlocked again once the switching point temperature has gone below by approx. 10K.

Unlocking is impossible.

When the ambient temperature on the switch head and the long-distance line deviates from the calibration ambient temperature +22°C, a switch point offset occurs. This switching point offset is minimized due to the temperature compensation.
