    System Requirements and Supported Platforms

Notes regarding 64-bit vs. 32-bit usage:• The installer for Windows and Linux provides both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Electric Make. (For Solaris, only

    32-bit is available.)

    • The ElectricAccelerator installer automatically sets the path to 32-bit. To use 64-bit, you must edit the environmentvariable path to include the 64-bit bin location before the 32-bit location.

    • 64-bit executables are installed in a new subdirectory of the install location, /64/bin .

For example:If you install into the Windows C:\ECLoud\i686_win32 directory, the 64-bit executables are in theC:\ECloud\i686_win32\64\bin directory. For Linux, the directory is /opt/ecloud/i686_Linux/64/bin .

    • Though 32-bit Electric Make can be used with 32- or 64-bit cluster hosts, Electric Cloud recommends using 64-bitWindows Vista/Server 2008 R2 cluster hosts with 64-bit eMake only. This is because on Windows, eMake uses--emake-reg-roots by default, even if it is not set. Using 32-bit eMake with a 64-bit Windows Vista/Server2008 R2 Agent/EFS causes registry mirroring issues.

    • The agent installer automatically determines whether to install the 32-bit or 64-bit agent based on the machinearchitecture. No user action is required.

    Known Limitations

Cluster Manager and Agent install locationsElectric Cloud does not support installation of Cluster Manager or Agents on the following:

    • NFS

    • CIFS

    • Samba shares

Database locationElectric Cloud does not support storing your database on Network Appliance systems or NFS.

Issues that you may encounter include the following:

    • ElectricAccelerator is unable to start MySQL because MySQL attempts to lock files that are already locked.

    • If MySQL starts, you may encounter issues related to MySQL UTF-8 support.

Database namesThe database name cannot contain a . (period). If the name contains a period, the Cluster Manager will not start.

Hardware RequirementsElectric Cloud recommends installing Cluster Manager, Electric Make, and Electric Agent components on independentmachines so each component can run efficiently without competing for system resources.

The following are minimum hardware requirements for each machine where ElectricAccelerator components areinstalled (Agent, Electric Make, Cluster Manager):

    • Solaris machines require a SPARC or x86-64 processor and 2 GB RAM is recommended, particularly for the

Cluster Manager machine.• Linux machines require a Pentium 4 processor and 2 GB RAM is recommended, particularly for the Cluster

    Manager machine.

    • Windows machines require at least a Pentium 4 processor and 2 GB RAM is recommended, particularly for theCluster Manager machine.

See “Agent Memory Usage” on page 2-7 for additional Agent recommendations.
