Elect!cs race
We begin our story with a young immigrant
named Nikola Tesla.
Tesla was from a small country known as
Croatia
Tesla's biggest rival was Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb. Both Tesla and
Edison were incredibly intelligent.
Tesla and Edison both had different thoughts on how electricity should power appliances. Edison wanted direct current, while Tesla
wanted alternating current.
Thomas Edison had his own company, which
was traded on the stock exchange.
While Tesla was backed by westinghouse
electrics.
Since both companies were traded on the stock market, people could essentially buy
parts of the companies.
This meant that the people could help decide what type of electricity would be used, simply
by purchasing stock in the companies
With so many people buying and selling
stock, the companies whose stock they were buying, were making money.
With so much money flowing into the
companies, they could spread their ideas, and expand their production.
In the end Tesla won the battle, and now
virtually all electricity used by americans is alternating current.
