ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First of all, praise to God finally I had done the ELE 3102: PRINCIPLES OF ENGLISH

LANGUAGE TEACHINGCoursework. This thing may not happen without the

cooperation from others. So I would like to thank you to my lecturer, Mdm Shalena

Adriana Kok helping me in finishing my coursework. Without their kindness in helping

me, I’m very sure I will face lots of difficulties in understanding the topic, finding the

main ideas and supporting details, and produced a reflextive essay.

Not forgotten to my family, thanks for helping me in providing me with enough

facilities like notebook, printer and giving me support in order to finishing this

assignment. Next, thank you to all my friends for helping me in understanding the topic,

finding the main ideas and supporting details, and produced an argumentative essay

and support me when I need it.

Last but not least, I’m really appreciating all of your help. Thank you for helping

me. Without all of your help, maybe I cannot complete my assignment like I’m done

today. I’m fully satisfied with my assignment and I hope all of you will share the same

feeling.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

………………………………

INTRODUCTION

1. Definition: In this kind of essay, we not only give information but also present an

argument with the PROS (supporting ideas) and CONS (opposing ideas) of an

argumentative issue. We should clearly take our stand and write as if we are

trying to persuade an opposing audience to adopt new beliefs or behaviour. The

primary objective is to persuade people to change beliefs that many of them do

not want to change.

2. Organization: All argumentative topics have PROs and CONs. Before starting

writing, it is imperative to make a list of these ideas and choose the most suitable

ones among them for supporting and refuting.

3. Refuting opposing arguments: Before we start saying that the opponents are

wrong, we should specify their opposing ideas. Otherwise, it would be like hitting

the other person with eyes closed. We should see clearly what we are hitting and

be prepared beforehand so that he cannot hit us back. We can do this by

knowing what we are refuting.

4. Language: Signposts gain importance in the argumentative essay. They enable

the readers to follow our arguments easily.

WORLDWIDE SPOKEN

English is spoken by more people than any other language, and is the native language of more than 350 million people.

English is the international language of diplomacy, business, science, technology, banking, computing, medicine, aviation, UN & NATO armed forces, engineering, tourism, Hollywood films and arguably the best pop and rock music in the world.

ENGLISH CAN BE FUN TOO.

For instance, the music of such stars as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson and Madonna has encouraged fans to speak the language of their idols, whilst others have enrolled in English classes to improve their understanding of the dialogue in films and TV shows.

SPOKEN ENGLISH IS USED IN THE BEST CAREERS:

the best universities, and is increasingly being used at job interviews. So like it or not, English is a very important language to learn how to speak.

3.0 REFLECTION

Thanks to God finally I had finished my ELE 3102: PRINCIPLES OF ENGLISH

LANGUAGE TEACHINGCoursework right on time. Although I had lots of coursework

and works to be done and had difficulties in producing the argumentative essay based

on the three articles given, I had tried our best and this is the result.

Through this assignment, now I gained the skills in identifying the main ideas and

supporting details from the three articles given. First I admit that I am to weak in

understanding the articles, but with the help of Mdm Shalena Adriana Kok and my

fellow friends, Mr. Shamsul B. Ali ,finally I can understand the articles and identifying the

main ideas and supporting details.

Furthermore, I had learnt about how to transfer the main ideas and supporting

details into a graphic organizer, from linear to non-linear form. As we know, those three

articles contains lots of main ideas and supporting details and I need to choose the

most important ones and finally I managed to include all the main ideas and supporting

details into a graphic organizer in just one sheet of paper.

Moreover, the most important things are when I learnt to write an 1000 words of

argumentative essay by responding critically to the topic of the articles. First I did not

know what is argumentative; it’s type and how responds critically to the articles given.

But with the help of Mdm Shalena Adriana Kok through her lectures and notes, I

manage to write reflective essay which I thought impossible to be done at the first time.

One thing that opened my eyes was through online chatting, the spelling,

grammar is ignored by online people. As a result, many people will face problems with

Page 9: ele3101-esaimen.doc

grammatical errors and proper English is dying out. So as a future teacher, it will be my

responsibilities in helping my pupils from having the same problems.

With the help of my lecturers, Mdm Shalena Adriana Kok and the cooperation

with my friends plus lots of patients, I can finally manage my time in doing this

coursework. Through this coursework, I had learnt the value of cooperation when my

lecturer, Miss Emisharina with her briefing and my friends when they always helps me

to find the information needed and helps me with my grammar indeed my grammar is

not strong enough. And thanks to Mr.Shamsul Ali in guiding us the APA format in writing

the bibliography.

All the information that I gained through this coursework is very worthy for me to

practice it.Thank you.
