During our quarantine and immediately after the State Vet imposed it, Eldorado set our hand lines down on fields 5 – 8 to take advantage of our down time. In addition, we have been fertilizing and pampering our fields to bring them to optimum performance. By the time you receive this you probably have noticed our new 3 red Water Cannons on our tournament fields. The staff has been in training and preparing them for operation. A 4th Cannon is due to arrive in the second week of February. We are also in the process of restoring our old cannons to optimal working order, giving us 8 operating cannons. This will allow us to get greater water coverage in a shorter period of time. The fields continue to be our main focus. February is here and the mornings are cold!! Just a reminder; please do not access the fields when there is frost as it will kill the grass. As you all know, Eldorado Polo Club used to handle all the beverage sales in the Cantina and Clubhouse. ROC’s Firehouse is now handling all food and the beverages with their liquor license. Eldorado is no longer in the food and beverage business, therefore, we are not equipped to process food and beverage billing, meaning, if you would like to charge your food and beverage you must see ROC’s Firehouse and they will be happy to keep a credit card on file for you. Eldorado will bill polo related charges only. Thank you very much for your understanding, and if you have questions please call me anytime at 760-702-6911. On January 5, 2012 the film crew from 60 minutes came to film a polo match featuring the “Work to Ride” program. Work to Ride is a non-profit organization providing disadvantaged urban youth from Philadelphia with constructive activities centered around horsemanship, equine sports and education. Located in Fairmont Park, the setting provides a unique opportunity to bring 7 to 19 year-old youth in contact with animals and nature. While most participants are trained in several sports, polo has proven to be the perennial favorite to Work to Ride youth. It was a picture perfect day with the match being played on field 4 next to the Cantina and our beautiful mountains in the western background providing spectacular views. We were informed the segment will air sometime between now and May. We will keep you posted. As always, if you need anything at all just give us a call and we’re happy to assist you if we can. The 2012 season was off to a great start prior to the EHV-1 quarantine with plenty of fast and exciting matches. We have had five teams biding for the coveted custom spurs crafted by Chris Kerley in honor of his father in the Wendall Kerley Memorial January 12 goal. In the 4 goal, it has been a hard fought battle between six teams that will go down to a four team semi-final playoff to determine the two teams that will meet and contest for the Roenisch bronzes. The finals for these leagues have been postponed and will be played once polo resumes, with some games also counting towards the February leagues.

We are due for more teams in the February leagues which will mean more fast and exciting polo. You may have noticed our grounds crew hand filling divots with sand and seed after games, this, combined with

our new Cadman water cannons will insure great fields for great polo during the 2012 season.

A reminder that the Amateur League will resume every weekend for those who like to have a bit of fun or for those who wish to visit the sunny Coachella Valley and slot into a game. We would also like to welcome those wishing to try their hand at polo to join the Eldorado Polo and Riding Academy for lessons and Academy League chukkers. We have polo for everyone here at Eldorado. Just call or drop by the polo office and we will be glad to look after your needs.

Love,

GEORGE DILL Polo Manager

Uretz brothers take home the Holiday and New Year crownsThe World Gym team featuring the Uretz brothers, Hank, Tony, Patrick and Wiley made an unstoppable foursome. The brothers took out both the Holiday Tournament on December 18 as a 1 goal team and due to the Uretz boys being rising stars of the polo world they competed in the New Year’s Tournament on January 1 under their new USPA 2012 handicaps as a 4 goal team!

As a 1 goal team in the Holiday Tournament with Wiley and Patrick on 1 goal, Tony rated 0 and Hank -1, the World Gym brothers took on the Urban Dog 4 goal team of Kim Garsed 0, Will Waggoner 0, Jesse Bray 3 and Antonio Juarez 1. The score of 9 – 6 in favor of World Gym solidified that they were a force to be reckoned with.

The New Year saw Patrick on 2 goals, Tony rated 1 goal, Hank on 0 and Wiley remaining on 1 goal rounding out to a 4 goal team. They took on the 3 goal Hanalei Bay team of Susan Guggenheim 0, Steven Cobb 0, Jared Sheldon 2 and Cacho Galindo 1 in the New Year’s Tournament final. The game was hard fought with the score remaining tight for the first two chukkers until the third when the brothers put it all together to take out the 11 – 8 win.
