The Experiential Leadership Development Conference (ELDC) is the BIGGEST national conference AIESEC in the Philippines has ever hosted with over 300 delegates from 20 entities. It is a program and action-based conference and is also the FIRST national conference to be held for the term 2014-2015. It aims to expand and widen each member’s AIESEC networks and be able to do more productive and successful operations in their respective roles as a youth leader of today. With it’s vision of achieving beyond the Winter Peak, ELDC is the improved version of the usual National Leadership Development Conferences (NLDC) held in the previous years. ELDC is the conference that will guide and equip you to reach the goals you’ve set beyond the bounds of your AIESEC journey.

October 16, 2014

Dear AIESEC Philippines,

Last night, at almost midnight I got a phone call from the elusive Kidlat Tahimik (formerly Eric de Guia), founder of AIESEC Philippines in the 1940’s and a Philippine national artist for film. The last time he was with AIESECers was back in an alumni event hosted by AIESEC UPD in 2010, and before that, no one really knows. He called to confirm and accept my request to interview him, and scheduled to have it over lunch in his restaurant the following day. The big catch was that his residence and restaurant is in Baguio City, a good six to eight hours from Metro Manila by bus. So after rushing to prepare the camera equipment, charging my devices, barely researching the directions, and only slightly taking care of my hygiene, I took the first bus I could find in Cubao to Baguio. Now, here I am at 10:30am writing this message to you in a coffee shop along the famous Session Road in the City of Pines while waiting for the interview. I don’t even know if he’ll show up, but what it would mean for him to do so is worth making the attempt anyway.

What is AIESEC but a bunch of kids taking purpose-driven risks, with hope that it would all pay off and result in making themselves and the people around them better people for society?

As an AIESECer for almost six years, I firmly believe that AIESEC does not develop leadership in you. It never did, and it never will. I will always believe that it is you who develop your leadership through AIESEC. In the same way, AIESEC will never be able to change society. However, you can make a massive difference in this world through AIESEC. This organization will always be just a platform, but everything else is up to the individuals that believe in its purpose. That is why that even long after AIESECers have left the organization, a lot of them never really leave the vision.

Of course as I said, this is all very purpose-driven. Some would even say, idealistic and naïve. There is no hard data statistics to prove that the equation would actually work. Therefore, there are people who will never understand the risks that AIESECers take for such huge assumptions. However, I invite you to take a second to imagine the Philippines turning into a world-class community. Imagine a Philippines that strives for excellence, activates leadership, lives diversity, acts sustainably, enjoys participation, and demonstrates integrity, across all level and sectors. Imagine living in that society and growing with people you love in that society. With risk comes return. With high risk comes high return. Doesn’t the risk you take by committing two to three years (with a guaranteed payback of an intense learning experience) seem like a good investment if the return is as massive as a Philippines you would feel truly proud of? A Philippines that contributes to humankind?

If yes, and you’ve decided to take the risk, then all that’s left to do is to make a commitment to making things happen. No matter the cost – time, money, energy, social capital, favors, asking permission from parents/professors, etc. – and not just in your time as part of AIESEC, but in your time as part of the human race.

Congratulations and thank you for joining the risk-takers in ELDC 2014. I’m really looking forward to an energy only a big room full of people like us could produce. I can’t wait to take the risk and change the world with you, through AIESEC.

It’s on us. No excuses.

Hey there, delegates!

Welcome to the first ever Experiential Leadership Development Conference 2014!

This time around the conference committee is taking this conference to a whole new level. It is action oriented and aims to make Generation 2015 happen. We’re not just planning but we’re making it happen as we go through the conference. Now’s the time to reach our goals and own up to our promises.

The future is indeed scary. The uncertainties and questions are endless. But what we’re certain of is the present. It is what we can control and get a hold of. We all have our dreams and aspirations and those can be achieved by acting now. It may seem intimidating but that is reality. It’s like taking a leap and not knowing where you’ll land. And, that is the essence of AIESEC, experiential leadership.

In behalf of the Conference Team, we hope that you would be able to take part in making history with us and continue to spread the values of being an AIESECer. This conference has been crafted for you, the delegates, go and take that leap.

Cheers, Margaret Kho

Socials1. In true Dothraki style, experience a night of revelry and

competition by the light of a roaring bonfire on the beach. Brush up on your AIESEC drinking games (or drinking games, in general) as we celebrate the first night of ELDC with a contest like never before. With our partner Bacardi, we bring to you a night Under the Moon.

2. While ladies are expected at a King’s Court, there will always be the courtesans to fulfill every fantasy. During this night of hidden identities, we will welcome a new Queen to join the ranks of the Binibinis of the past. Join our festivities in your best costume, as deserving members of the court shall also be rewarded.

3. What better way to welcome the winter peak with our battle cry, Winter is Here! For the final night of ELDC, party in the dark with only neon lights as torches.
