Leopold Primary School Mission

At Leopold primary school, learning to know , learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together, equips our students with knowledge, skills and the disposition to actively embrace learning, leading all to become confident contributing members of both our school and the wider community

It was my pleasure to go on one of the grade 4 three day camps to Maldon and to experience firsthand the camps facilities, the quality of the activities and the way our amazing students embraced the long rides and the beautiful bush setting. This year the camp was strengthened by the addition of a ride to a bush area where our students could meander at their own pace on bush tracks and by also having police officer Rick with us on the long ride to the ‘Dredge’. Grade 4 Billy cart incursion

On the 12th August 2015 the grade 4s had a Billy Cart incursion! A man called Brent came from Supreme

Incursions to our school to teach us about billy carts. There was four different activities. First we learned about

all the different parts on a billy cart and how to use a billy cart. Next we found out how a billy cart got its name.

Its name is called a Billy Cart because back in the day, billy goats pulled carts to help move things for people.

The four hands on activities were design, construction, driving and finally a work shop. The two grades got a

turn at doing all of those activities and we thought that driving was the best. We thought the billy cart incursion

was great!

DEBATING AT LEOPOLD PS in 2015

Barwon Junior Debating competition season started in June last term. Both teams meet in the Indonesian Room on Wednesdays

after school and on Thursdays for the hour after lunch. Our teams are as follows:-

The students have worked hard to research the first 2 topics. We lost the first debates against Drysdale Teams A and B on the

topic “That cyclists should pay to be licensed and registered”. Last week we debated Roslyn Teams A and B with one win and

one extremely close loss. Our next debate is on Wednesday August 26th in the Melaluka Building versus Bellbrae Teams A and B

on a secret topic that students have only 30 minutes to prepare…….quite a challenge but one that will upskill our teams. Go Leo-

pold, You Can Do It!!!

YOU CAN DO IT – BULLY STOPPERS CONCERT 2015

The Concert is almost upon us …… Friday September 4th. It’s held at Costa Hall and starts at 7 p.m. We’ve been preparing and rehearsing for this

year’s concert all term. Our Grades 1, 3 and 5 have been dancing and singing for this amaz-

ing event that highlights and demonstrates our kids’ abilities to GET ALONG, BE ORGAN-

ISED, BE CONFIDENT, BE PERSISTENT and BE RESILIENT!!! The songs are very care-

fully selected for their lyrics, so the messages and skills that the students learn are evident

in the words of the songs. So exciting!!! Tickets will be on sale from Monday 24th August– cost $17.50 per ticket. Further infor-

mation regarding ticket sales will be sent home next week.

Costumes are kept simple…..black jeans, pants, shorts, skirts teamed with a T-Shirt in one of the YCDI

colours of GREEN, GOLD, RED, AQUA OR PURPLE. This can also be reversed with a black T-Shirt

teamed with coloured jeans in one of the YCDI colours. If you have any queries, please contact me at

school on 52501233.

Grade 4 Bike Ed Camp From Wednesday to Friday 4ER and 4ES went on camp to Maldon. We arrived there after a long 2 hour ride with a stop at Hep-burn Springs to have snack. Bikes were handed to us that we were to keep for camp. The next day we rode to a vast forest where we made damper that we cooked over a fire. Also there we built huts using sticks, logs and bark we found off the ground. Lots of people found themselves on a sugar rush after eating all the lollies they bought from the Maldon lolly shop. Later that night we had a disco followed by a movie. Nerf gun wars were really amusing because Miss Rogers got hit in the head a few times and luckily no one got lost by reading a map wrong. Thank you to Julie, Kak Pia, Mr Marshall and Miss Rollinson for helping out on our camp. From Keely Kinsey.

We would also like to give, on behalf of all the Year 4 campers, a special thank you to everyone who supported the camp with

changes to time tables, equipment, first aide.

Medication Reminder At this time of year we have many students requiring short term medication e.g antibiotics. Please note that all medication must be handed to the office by the parent or guardian. Staff are unable to administer medication unless parent/guardian have signed and dated a permission form. Unfortunately if the medication form has not been filled out students will not receive their medication provided to the school.
