“Arca de Noé”
The Ideal
El Arca del Arte® is a private initiative aimed at improving relations between the people of the different countries bordering the Mediterranean
Sea. Art, and the positive energy it generates, can
help.
Interaction between people of different cultures on a mutual art-interest will contribute to bring
about more understanding. Create respect by understanding!

The name
The name of the project El Arca del Arte® is referring to Noah's Arc , the
symbol that has roots in all three religions around the Mediterranean sea.
Does it - with Noah’s Arc - stand for safeguarding the very best for physical
survival, with our Arca it is all about immaterial needs.
Concept and brand name are internationally registered and relevant domain names are
claimed. 32008 concept El Arca del Arte © Jan G.M. van der Burg
The Idea
The idea is to gather all kind of art related activities from countries around the
Mediterranean. To create a lively art centre where top galleries, shops, art institutes, art services
and artists can meet, have a platform and even have a place to
practice. Thus providing a broad audience:
the one stop experience in Europe to grasp life
from all around the Mediterranean through its
top Art and Design….

Realistic?
Noble goal, nice idea, o.k., but on a realistic base: The ‘Arca’ will host Art and Design and promises a new and unique formula combining museum functions and commerce thus guaranteeing
sound finance into the future. The basic exploitation principle:
all space in the building is to be rented out.
To preserve the Mediterranean theme and the quality of
El Arca’s content, a foundation will control programming, promotion and funding/sponsoring.

The participants, 1
The best guarantee for a diverse and comprehensive view on Mediterranean art
will be the involvement of the National Art Councils.
They will have their office/presentation room in El Arca from where they can inform the public on the main art streams in their
country as well as organize specific art events, presentations and exhibitions.
Some great artefacts permanently exhibited per country will add up and serve
the museum function of El Arca82008 concept El Arca del Arte © Jan G.M. van der Burg

Location
The “Arca” could be a major touristic attraction for any harbor city in one of the countries around the Mediterranean Sea. For obvious historical reasons - having roots of different cultures - Spain looks
favorite and then especially one of the main ports along the Andalucian coastline.
Marbella is the first city that realizes the potential and officially spoke of full cooperation of
its department of Urbanism to find the ideal location.

Architecture
The architecture of the building will be Arc-like and spectacular.
So outspoken that it will enhance the image of the hosting city and attract people from all over the world.
Think of what the Guggenheim
museum does for Bilbao !
