EXPLOSIAExplosia a.s. is production and trading company operating in the eld of production ofexplosives, ammunition and providing the services, connected with application of energetic materials for commercial as well as military use. The company with original name Czechoslovak Joint-Stock Factory for Explosive Materials was established in 1920, and this year celebrates the 85th anniversary. Name Explosia, used rst unofcially only, was adopted in 1934. During its existence Explosia has gone through a number of organizational changes. An important step in modern history of Explosia was the rise of joint-stock company Explosia in 1998 and its consequent property split-off from Aliachem a.s. At present time, 100% Explosia a.s. shares are owned by the state.

Explosia a.s. holds an important position in the eld of production of explosives andpropellants not only in the Czech Republic, but it is also an important exporter of propellants, commercial explosives, ammunition and special pyrotechnic products.

Explosia a.s. produces a wide assortment of qualied commercial explosives for openpits blasting, explosives designed for underground blasting, special plastic explosives for military use, smokeless powders for both commercial and military use and a number of other products, out of which it is possible to mention e.g. modular charges for weapons of calibre 155 mm, subcalibre ammunition of calibre 125 mm, pyrotechnic components for aircraft rescue systems, plastic explosives etc.

    Research Institute of Industrial Chemistry

Incorporated in Explosia a.s. works the Research Institute of Industrial Chemistry (VPCH), established in 1954. The institute provides research and development of explosives and ammunition not only for Explosia a.s. but also for other partners in the Czech Republic and abroad. Apart from R&D, the results of which are designed for both commercial and military utilization, VPCH offers also services in the eld of analytical chemistry, testingand safety engineering of explosives and propellants, short-run production of new energetic materials and special explosives and production of pyrotechnic components for aircraft rescue systems.

  • Products

Research group of VPCH which deals with research and development of new energetic materials successfully nished laboratory and pilot scale production of energetic materials as e.g. NTO, TAGN, TNAZ, HNIW, TEX, ATZ, GZT, GA, DMNB etc.

Special explosive products are designed for specic utilization of explosion effects in various elds. All plastic and exible explosives are marked for preexplosion detection according to Montreal Convention and are easy to detect by means of the detectors currently in service.

The activities of explosive welding of metals are concentrated on developing and manufacturing of explosion-clad bimetallic and multilayer metallic materials. Half-nished products, structural elements, and components are produced directly in the VPCH or in cooperation with the respective customer.

    Quality Assurance

Quality Management System, as to the extent corresponding with ISO 9001 standard, was introduced in the company in 1998. Since 2003, after successful passing the re-certication audit, Explosia a.s. has been the holder of the Certicate according to system standard ISO 9001: 2000 and since 2004 the holder of Certicate of Conformity of Quality System with AQAP 110 Requirements.

  • Explosive working of metals

  • The activities are concentrated on developing and manufacturing of explosion-clad bimetallic and multilayer metallic materials. Half-nished products, structural elements, and components are produced in cooperation with the customer.

Semi-products for Manufacturing the Tube Plates for Heat Exchangers

They are produced of structural carbon steels (various types) in combination with corrosion-resistant steels, copper and copper alloys, titanium, aluminium and aluminium alloys, nickel and nickel alloys, and the like. The cladding may be performed on one side or both sides, usually in the whole area.

    Bimetallic or Multilayer Sheets

Structural materials for producing the vessels to be used in chemical and foodstuff engineering are produced in combinations similar to those used for producing the tube plate semi-products. The multilayer materials are produced at the option of customer. The achievable material thicknesses are connected with surface dimension, and the whole problem requires consultations with us.

    Bearing Materials

Antifriction alloys (aluminium and tin bronzes) are clad as a sheet (strip) on the carbon steel. The products are used in manufacturing the bearing shells, guide gibs, bearing plates, elements for hydraulic-system components, and the like.

    Wear Resistant Materials

Hadelds austenitic manganese steel, a classical wear-resistant material, clad with the structural carbon steel can be welded to steel structures using standard procedures.

    Workpieces to be Rolled down

Blooms or billets clad on one or on both sides destined to hot or cold rolling-down operation are prepared in carbon steel corrosion resistant material, titanium, copper and copper alloys. The same category comprises further combinations of various alloys of copper and silver, which are used in electrical engineering.

  • Structural Transition Joints

Bimetallic or multilayer parts designed for subsequent fusion welding-in between two materials that are not interweldable by a standard procedure. The most usual combination comprises the structural carbon steel-aluminium combination for current supply to electrolyzers, or e.g. for connecting steel ship structure with aluminium deck structure, and further the corrosion resistant steel copper AlMn1 alloy combination for tube anges in cryogenics. It is possible to prepare the multitubular adapter too.

    Semi-Products for Glass Moulds

They are produced in the shapes of plates, blocks and disks with one side clad with pure nickel or austenitic high-alloy chromium-nickel steel. The base material is, as a rule, the structural soft steel. It is possible to combine the resistance of functional layer with thermal conductivity of the base, which results in substantial savings of nickel and nickel alloys.

Tube to Tube-Plate Explosive Welding and Fixing

Tube to tube-plate explosive welding and xing in various geometrical and material combinations.

Lining-up of the Socket Pipes and Sheathing of the Rods or the Shafts

Most frequent application is lining-up of the socket pipes. They are produced of structural carbon steels of various types in combination with corrosion resistant steels. The shafts are possible to be sheathed by bearing materials. Bimetal rods of circular cross section are possible to be prepared in various material combinations.

Explosive Hardening of Manganese-Steel Construction Elements

Working the Hadelds steel by virtue of shock wave. In this way strength and hardness of the metal is increased. The main application is explosive hardening of cast railway crossing frogs of manganese steel.
