Without the soul for getting downMust stand and face the hounds of hellAnd rot inside a corpse's shellThe foulest stench is in the airThe funk of forty thousand yearsAnd grizzly ghouls from every tombAre closing in to seal your doomAnd though you fight to stay aliveYour body starts to shiver

The Halloween customs we celebrate eachOctober 31st began long ago. They came from theancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celtic

people lived about 2000 year ago in area which we now callIreland, the United Kindom, and France. The festival ofSamhain marked the end of summer, the harvest, and thebeginning of their new year. The Celtic people believed thaton the night of October 31 st, the ghosts of the dead returned

to earth. They built huge bonfires and

dressed in costumes to ghosts good thing toeat.

The modern customs of Halloween aresimilar to the customs of Celtic peoplebecause many immigrants came to Americaand brought their beliefs and traditions

with them. The carving of a Jack-o-Lantern is thought tocome from the tradition of Irish children. They would carvepotatoes or turnips and light them for theirHalloween celebrations. The name Jackcame from an Irish man who peoplethought was so wicked neither heaven orthe devil wanted him. Jack is thought to

have roamed the earth looking for a placeto rest.

Trick or Treating is thought to have come from theEnglish people when they celebrated the religious festival ofAll Saints Day. On this day, the poor would beg for food andwould be given Soul Cakes to pray for the souls of the

    relatives of rich people.
