EJECTION SEAT SOLUTION Overview Military fighter jets have been equipped with ejection seat systems for over 50 years, with earliest designs dating back to the early 1920s. The ejection seat comprises many of the components of an aircraft because it has to be flight capable once the system is deployed. It is one of the most important and complex systems installed the aggressor aircraft. Typical ejection seats have a propulsion system, a parachute system, an oxygen system for breathing and stabilization components to keep it from spinning out of control once ejected from the aircraft. Kellstrom Defense now provides complete support for the ejection seats of several military aircraft including F-5, T-38, A-37, T-37, OV-10 and others. Background The challenge with maintaining ejection seats on military aircraft is the sourcing and supply of the CAD/PAD components. These items contain the energetic materials that eject the canopy and then the seat, separating the pilot from the aircraft in emergency situations. Because CAD/PAD components contain energetic and propulsion materials, handling and maintenance require high levels of training and safety procedures. In addition, the energetics and propellants have a limited service life because the chemical in the CAD/ PAD components expire and actually become unstable over time. One of the challenges faced by operators is keeping track of CAD/PAD service life for each of the ejection seats in their respective fleets. The task of tracking multiple components per ejection seat for an entire fleet of aircraft can be daunting. Obsolescence of energetic materials also poses a challenge and requires that new materials be qualified for replacement of CAD/PAD’s. Business Need Several customers approached the Kellstrom Defense/Task Aerospace team to refurbish and certify their ejection seats to a “zero time” condition. Solutions through traditional channels led to excessive lead times and was cost prohibitive for these customers. Another issue faced by our customers was the overall shelf life management of their CAD/PAD inventory. Solution The Kellstrom Defense/TASK Aerospace team provided a comprehensive solution for the customers’ ejection seat requirements. The program included: • Tear down, repair and refurbishment of the seat structure and non-energetic components • Qualification of new propellant to replace obsolete material • Installation of newly manufactured CAD/PAD components to the seats • Implementation of CAD/PAD management system for future tracking and procurement planning • Development and deployment of safety training to operators Benefits Our comprehensive program addressed our customers’ requirements. The cost effective solution fills a void for international operators and aids in the sustainment of their respective fleets. +1.805.446.2700 Kellstrom Defense 1283 Flynn Road Camarillo, CA 93012 T: 805.446.2700 F: 805.446.2800 www.kellstromdefense.com Our customized program offers a comprehensive solution. Overview

Military ghter jets have been equipped with ejection seat systems for over 50 years, with earliest designs dating back to the early 1920s. The ejection seat comprises many of the components of an aircraft because it has to be ight capable once the system is deployed.
