Use Criteria DI / PI

Criteria Process Integrator

Data Integrator Notes

Data Volume

Huge/Bulk DI can move huge amount of data (billions of records) in a non-transactional mode. PI can process a large number messages containing small amount of data efficientlySmall, in transactions/messages

Process Operation

Scheduled DI processing is typically scheduled, it does have capability to receive events via web services or other means and process these eventsEvent triggered

Data Latency Real-time to near Real-time Data latency with DI tends to be larger (in order of minutes)

Data Operations

Record and Set level – direct table, file, log access DI can process individual records or sets of them and is typically not application aware. PI is more suited for individual objects and is application aware.Object (Transaction) level – application APIs

Data Transformation Complex, multi-step, calculations and aggregationsDI does well in applying complex transformations needed for DW or data migration

Data Distribution Cardinality from source to target (transaction mode)

1:1

Complex data propagation from a number of sources to targets is done well by PI retaining the characteristics of the transactions, support Pub-Sub mechanism.DI can do simple point-to-point data propagation.

1:N

N:1

N:M

Distributed Transactions Coordinated commits and rollbacks No capability in DI for this

Workflows

Simple DI workflows tend to be simple having to do with process sequencing and error handling, PI has true WF & BPM capabilitiesMulti-step with human interaction

Transaction Integrity Guaranteed delivery, recovery DI does not support this in a robust fashion

SAP NetWeaver BW AcceleratorAccelerate Query Performance for Faster Decision Making

Reduce SAP NetWeaver BW maintenance significantly, resulting in lower TCO

Increase user satisfaction and expand the reach of BI with predicable response times and faster results

Provide users with access to the full spectrum of detailed information at Google-like response times

Accelerate massive data volumes to achieve fast response times for more timely decisions

Our query response time is phenomenal. One standard query that used to take 2 or 3 minutes to run now fishes in just 7 seconds. It’s no surprise that we are seeing dramatically increased performance across our user community”Philip Knight, Manager of Information Technology, Merit Energy

Planned Product Direction Introducing:High Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA)

SAP High Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA ) HANA is a flexible, multi-purpose, data source agonistic in-memory appliance that combines

both hardware and software components to support a number of valuable use case scenarios. HANA bundles a number of integrated SAP software components including the in-memory

computing engine, real-time replication service, data modeling and data services. It will be delivered as an optimized hardware appliance in conjunction with key hardware providers.

HANA enables organizations to analyze business operations based on large volumes of detailed information in real-time -as it happens.

Individuals can create very flexible analytic models based on real-time data without impacting backend enterprise applications or data bases.

In-Memory Computing Engine The next generation high performance in-memory computing engine will leverage SAP „s latest

in-memory technologies such as columnar databases, massively parallel processing (MPP), in-memory computing, and data compression techniques

It is the major component of HANA and offers data acceleration and management software in a single integrated environment
