My dear parishioners, I really want to say thank you to so many of you. As difficult as this time of pandemic has been, I have truly been blessed. A major reason for that bless-ing has been because of so many of you. I am extreme-ly grateful for the love shown by so many of you over these last few months. I have received so many letters, emails, messages, cards expressing gratitude, love and support. There have been days when I was extremely drained and I would receive such a message that it lift-ed up my spirits. I have shared with others and many of my priest friends how grateful I am for the support I have personally received during this time. I am also grateful to those of you who have been able to continue to financially support the parish. So many of you have “caught” up with your tithing, giving substantial contributions for the weeks you could not physically attend Mass. Your love for St. Mary’s is an inspiration. Many of you, like myself, have taken advantage of the online giving to make sure your contributions come through electronically. Many of you mail in your contributions or I see you put them in the mail slot of the rectory door. Your support of the parish helps us to continue to pay bills, salaries, etc. I am grateful for the generosity you showed to the sisters, the Comunicadoras Eucaristicas del Padre Celestial. Many of you made financial donations to them (some still come in and I send it to them), dropped off food for them, purchased items for them and lifted them up in prayer. You helped to make their time here a little less difficult. They send their grati-tude to you and want you to know that they are still praying for you. Your prayers have been a source of grace and blessing for me as well. It has been beautiful to see how you lifted others up in prayer, in particularly dur-ing the online services. Your faith in Jesus inspires me and encourages me to love Jesus more. Please know that I always remember you at the altar. I want to let you know that I am trying to get away for a few days. I cannot take my usual vacation, but I do have help coming in for daily Mass the next two weeks. I will be back for the Friday evening Span-ish Masses and the weekend Masses. If I am able to get more coverage in August, I may take more days. I real-ly do need to rest and get ready for September. Let us continue to pray for one another. God bless,

Mis queridos feligreses, Verdaderamente quiero agradecer a muchos de ustedes. Tan difícil como el tiempo de la pandemia ha sido, verdaderamente he sido bendecido. Una de las prin-cipales razones de esas bendiciones han sido muchos de ustedes. Estoy extremadamente agradecido por el amor demostrado por muchos de ustedes a través de los últi-mos meses. He recibido muchas cartas, correos electróni-cos, mensajes, tarjetas expresando gratitud, amor y apo-yo. Hubieron días cuando estuve extremadamente agota-do y recibía un mensaje que levantaba mi ánimo. He compartido con otros y muchos de mis amigos sacerdotes cuan agradecido estoy por el apoyo que personalmente he recibido durante este tiempo. Estoy también agradecido a aquellos de ustedes a quienes les ha sido posible continuar apoyando finan-cieramente a la parroquia. Muchos de ustedes se “han puesto al día” con su diezmo, dando grandes contribucio-nes por las semanas que no pudieron asistir físicamente a Misa. Su amor por María Auxiliadora es una inspiración. Muchos de ustedes, como yo, han tomado ventaja de dar por internet para asegurarse de que sus contribuciones llegaran electrónicamente. Muchos de ustedes envían por correo sus contribuciones o los veo dejarlos en la abertura de la puerta de la oficina parroquial. Su apoyo a la parro-quia nos ayuda a continuar pagando las cuentas, salarios, etc. Estoy agradecido por la generosidad que mostra-ron a las Hermanas, las Comunicadoras Eucarísticas del Padre Celestial. Saint Dominic
Dominic was born around 1170 in Calaruega, Spain, and
joined the Augustinian Canons. While preaching against
the Albigensian heresy in France, he saw the need for solid
preachers of the Gospel who would be fortified by study,
strengthened by prayer, and confirmed in poverty. The men
who followed Dominic in this new form of religious life
became known as the Order of Preachers, or the Domini-
cans. In his 1216 bull approving the order, Pope Honorius
III looked to Dominic’s brethren as “the future champions
of the faith and the true lights of the world.” Dominic died
in 1221 surrounded by his friars.

Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament
Our parish has had a long history of providing adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. One of the requirements to have ex-position is that we must have at least two people present in
order to adore and protect our Lord. We are having a hard time ensuring coverage, hence we have not been having it as regularly as we want. We need people to volunteer to at least one hour each week. Many of our regulars are nervous about
coming out and that is understandable. If you are willing to take an hour or more a week, please call the rectory at 718-672-4848 or email at [email protected] to pro-vide your name, phone number and times you are available.

Santo Domingo
Nació en Caleruega (España), alrededor del año 1170. Es-
tudió teología en Palencia y fue nombrado canónigo de la
Iglesia de Osma. Con su predicación y con su vida ejem-
plar, combatió con éxito la herejía albigense. Con los com-
pañeros que se le adhirieron en esta empresa, fundó la Or-
den de Predicadores (los dominicos). Murió en Bolonia el
día 6 de agosto del año 1221.
Adoradores del Santísimo Sacramento
Nuestra parroquia ha tenido una larga historia de proveer
adoración del Santísimo Sacramento. Uno de los requisitos
para tener exposición es que debemos tener al menos dos
personas presentes para adorar y proteger a nuestro Señor.
Estamos teniendo dificultades para asegurar la cobertura,
por lo que no lo hemos tenido tan regularmente como que-
remos. Necesitamos voluntarios por lo menos por una hora
cada semana. Muchas de las personas habituales están ner-
viosas de salir y se entiende. Si ustedes están dispuestos
para tomar una hora o más a la semana, por favor llame a

Our Church History...
Joan of Arc is Known as the Maid of Orléans
The Hundred Years’ War raged from 1337 to 1452 as the English House of Plantagenet sought sovereignty in France against the House of Valois. Saying she was sent by Michael the Archangel and Catherine of Siena, young Joan of Arc presented herself to King Charles VII who sent her into Orléans as part of a relief mission. Brave but inexperienced in battle, Joan was captured by the English, placed in trial, and condemned as both a politi-cal enemy and a Catholic heretic. With a self-appointed tribunal, the English predictably found nineteen-year-old Joan guilty on all charges, sentencing her to the flames on May 30, 1431. Twenty years later, Pope Callix-tus III officially exonerated her and held her up as a faithful daughter of both France and the Church. Joan became known as the Maid of Orléans (maid is old Eng-lish for “virgin”) and was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920.

Juana de Arco es Conocida como la Doncella de Orleans
La Guerra de los Cien Años transcurrió entre 1337 y 1452 entre la Casa Real Inglesa de los Plantagenet que busca-ban la soberanía de la Casa Real Francesa de Valois. Di-ciendo que había sido enviada por San Miguel Arcángel y Catalina de Siena, la joven Juana de Arco se presentó al Rey Carlos VII quien la envió a Orleans como parte de una misión de socorro. Valiente pero sin experiencia en la batalla, Juana fue capturada por los ingleses, puesta en juicio, y condenada como enemiga política y hereje católi-ca. Con un tribunal autonombrado, los Ingleses como era previsto encontraron a Juana de diecinueve años culpable de todos los cargos, y la sentenciaron a las llamas el 30 de mayo de 1431. Veinte años más tarde, el Papa Calisto III oficialmente la exoneró y la sostuvo como una fiel hija de Francia y de la Iglesia. Juana se hizo conocida como la Doncella de Orleans (doncella en Inglés antiguo quiere decir “virgen”) y fue canonizada por el Papa Benedicto XV en 1920.
