FESTIVAL THANK YOU Our 51st Annual Parish Festival has come and gone. Many hours of work have been put in to planning, set-up and executing the plans, fol-lowed by the take-down of the festival grounds.

The success of the festival is not just measured by dollars and cents. Over the years, I have heard parishioners say the festival is a great time to get to know one another. Those who have worked the festival for a num-ber of years say they have become life-long friends.

Let us thank God who provided us with three days of perfect festival weather. In addition, there was plenty of good food (too much to eat in three days), lots of good music along with visiting with family and friends. I wish to extend a big THANK YOU to the many parishioners and friends of the parish who helped to make our 51st Annual Parish Festival a success.

PILLAR 1: THE CREED DISCUSSION RECAP

Pillar session 7: The Beginning of the Middle (CCC #456-534)

What does it mean to say God became flesh? How is that possible? Does the balance of the divine becoming human complement each other or conflict? What does this mean for Mary? What was it like for Mary (a human) to carry a baby (divine) in her womb? How does this whole operation work?

God works theandrically (i.e. of or relating to the divine and human or their union or joint operation - one and the same Christ, working both the divine and the human actions by one theandric operation).

God takes on the form of a baby with all that entails. This is an amazing miracle at the center of our faith. God literally submits to the laws of our nature, this is not only humbling but incredible to fathom. Mary literally combed God’s hair, sang to God, rubbed God’s belly when he was sick, held God’s hand walking in town, etc. Why would God do this? What was the purpose of God becoming flesh?

1) To save us (CCC 457) 2) That we may know God’s love (CCC 458) 3) To be our model of holiness (CCC 459) 4) To make us partakers of the divine nature (CCC 460)

Jesus had two wills and two natures and they complimented each other. God had to assume every aspect of the human nature to save it. That which he did not assume was not saved. Jesus established a Church and a Sacramental system of means to be saved (which we will go deeper into in Pillar 2). The system is meant for two reasons: gratia sans (grace heals) and gratia elevans (grace elevates). This

not only transforms us in Sacramental grace but elevates us to become partakers of the Heavenly kingdom. When a devout Catholic (in a state of grace) receives their Creator, Redeemer & Sanctifier on their tongue at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass the graces transferred to the Soul is unparalleled. When that same person goes to the altar and offers all of their sacrifices, pain, turmoil, loss, hatred, sad-ness, joy, merit and love Christ receives that and replaces it with Himself. It’s God becoming flesh within us spiritually. This is amazing!!

God bless, Austin Rahill, Director of Religious Education

Life’s Corner: The word “love” is the most misused, abused, and confused word in the English language. We say: I love ice cream, I love my mother, I love my wife, I love God. And some use love to justify abortion. The real meaning of love is found at the Cross. Love says, “I sacrifice myself for the good of the other person.” Abortion says, “I sacrifice the other person for the good of myself.”

Lord, I commit myself today to the love of others, especially those most in need.
