Hello!

Ramadan has come to an end and let’s just say, it sure has been an extremely different one than what we’re used to! The hashtag #رمضاين غري describes this Ramadan perfectly, it was filled with fun and laughter as we spent this time with our closest friends and teachers.

As Ramadan finishes and Eid arrives, it brings a lot of excite-ment with it. Grown-ups fluster as they try to get everything ready and small children run around with the thrilling sen-sation of getting their Eidia and venturing out to toy stores to get everything their heart desires.

This particular Eid is the first one this year - Eid Al Fitr, which comes from the word ‘futoor’ and it signals the end of Rama-dan, a Holy month. Muslims will be celebrating Eid all over the world and each country’s culture and traditions differ from each other.

MESSAGE FROM THE HEADS

For example, in the UAE we visit our families, where we all come together at our Grandparents house dressed in our finest clothes. Also, Eidiya is given out, which is money you get during Eid. It continues fro 3 days and each is filled with happiness and joy as loving families are brought together. Everyone is on the edge of their seat waiting for Eid and it’s delights. But it is also bittersweet as we leave Ramadan but look forward to it again next year.

It has been wonderful spending Ramadan in school with our friends and going to the amazing gatherings that were hosted.

Eid Mubarak, everyone!

NEWS IN YEAR GROUPS FOUNDATION STAGE 1

What a wonderful week we have had in Foundation Stage 1, preparing for Eid Al-Fitr. Everybody worked really hard to make cards for our families to wishing them a Happy Eid. We really enjoyed making these beautiful cards with our friends and teachers. All the children are really excited to celebrate Eid and they are really looking forwards to seeing their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Many children, especially the girls spoke about the new clothes that they have got for the celebrations. Over the week, the girls of FS1 designed hennas. We definitely have some very talented and creative artists in our midst.

On Monday morning we went to assembly and all the children really enjoyed watching FS2 on stage. They told the story of ‘The Little Red Hen” and sang a lovely song all about friendships. Well done to all those children who received Gold Cards for all their excellent work in school.

FS1 are now covering the topic of ‘Under the Sea” and we have really enjoyed watching them pretending to be mermaids, pirates, sailors and scuba divers. We have been reading the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’. This book is all about sharing and how you will feel much happier when you share with your friends. This story has had a positive impact on FS1

as many children showed great kindness sharing resources with their friends and classmates this week.

Well done to all the boys and girls who made an extra effort to bring a healthy snack and lunch to school. Thank you to all the parents and carers for helping the children to make healthy food choices.

Congratulations to our Healthy Eaters of the Week:

Once upon a time in FS2 the children read a story called The Gingerbread Man. The children loved this story so much that they wrote about it, talked about it, acted out with their friends and even made their own Gin-gerbread Man pictures. FS2 love learning about Fairytales and different stories and we are really enjoying our Once Upon A Time Topic.

NEWS IN YEAR GROUPS FOUNDATION STAGE 2

Over the Eid Holiday see how many fairytale stories you can remember and see if there are any new ones you can read at home. Read, relax and enjoy the break and as always thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards, The FS2 Team

ENGLISH

Year 7 looked at an extract from Dracula and practised compre-hension skills using PEE and creative writing skills in which they wrote a letter from Johna-thon’s point of view, describing their first impressions of the Count.

Year 8 looked over the writing part of their end of term exam, peer assessing some examples of writing and then using this set themselves targets on how to improve their own writing.

Year 9 learned about persuasive techniques, which was linked to their end of unit assessment in which they analysed a speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Us-ing the similar techniques, they then wrote a speech of their own for an item they wanted to see put into ‘Room 101’.

Year 10 English Language students looked over their as-sessment, discussing what they had done well and what areas needed improving in order to set targets for the continuation of the course this term and into Year 11.

Year 10 Literature students looked over their assessment, discussing what they had done well and what areas needed improving in order to set tar-gets for the continuation of the course this term and into Year 11.

Year 10 1st Language: During our double lesson on Tuesday, Year 10 girls reviewed question 2 and 3 of their exam paper, fo-cusing on the writer’s thoughts and feelings. We will reflect on the writing paper next week.

HISTORY

In History this week Year 7 continued with their World War II topic, looking at the effects of The Blitz on the cities and towns of Britain. They analysed pho-tographs from the time, saying what they could see and what they could infer. Home learning is to gather more photographs of the effects of The Blitz, in preparation for a Blitz Art/poetry project. I suggest five minimum, they can put them in Word or PowerPoint.

Year 8 started their new topic ‘The Cold War’, using political cartoons to understanding the nature of the Cold War and what happened. Home learning is to learn the spelling and meaning of their new words: propaganda, espionage, arms race, space race, hostility, competition, sus-picion.

Year 9 continued with their Cold War topic, studying the Space Race. They started to colour code a timeline, saying whether each achievement was Soviet or American. Home learning is to find images of the Space Race.

MATHS

Secondary girls from Years 7 to 10 are reflecting on their term 3 assessments. They have identified strength and weak-ness areas and worked on their individual problem areas. Next week. We will start teaching new academic year’s content. Eid Mubarak!

FRENCH

Students in French have been completing their Speaking As-sessments and reviewing and reflecting on their completed exams. As students are reflecting on their recent assessment expe-rience we learn how to improve for the future.

Year 10 IGCSE students contin-ue their course and we have fo-cused on the Reading and Writ-ing assessments in particular.

Students who have selected French as an IGCSE option have started the course. Materials have been given to the students for them to work on over the summer months also. Students are encouraged to speak to Miss Kerr if they have any queries about what to expect next year.

All KS3 students reviewed their Geography exams this week. They analysed the paper, looked at the common errors with a view to improve their answers next time. Next week, Year 7 will begin the next topic ‘Destructive World’ with a focus on the Him-alayas. Year 8 and Year 9 will be introduced to the IGCSE course and Year 10 will continue with the topic of Economic Activities ‘Malthus and Boserup theories’ of population and resources.
