ECD-700
Eicom ECD-700 Electrochemical Detector for HPLC
Eicom ECD-700
Features
Eicom's electrochemical detector, the ECD-700, offers superior stability and sensitivity that reviles that of mass spectrometry detectors, but without the cost and special expertise. Electrochemical detectors easily detect a wide range of easily oxidized or reduced compounds, and you can rely of Eicom's extensive experience to help youfind the best set-up for your research goals. Depending of the requirements of a particular method, the ECD-700 can be configured with up to two detector cells. Both amperometric and coulometric types are available.
In amperometry the analyte contacts the surface of a solid working electrode. Amperometry achieves better signal-to-noise ratios resulting in better sensitivity. Coulometry depends on porous working electrode to promote the complete electrolysis of the analyte as it passes. At Eicom, we find the best approach is to employ coulometric cells to prepare the analyte for detection with an amperometric cell.
• High Sensitivity, 30 fg sensitivity for Dopamine at S/N ratio=3.• Easy system setup and “ready-to-use” applications.• Instant access to the working electrode of the amperometric detector cell.• Expandable design for more demanding users or protocols.

Amperometry vs. Coulometry
Simplicity + ExpandabilityThe keyword during the development of the ECD-700 was “expandability”. Over the past 25 years of Eicom ECD products, our goal has been to help users “kick start” new projects with our “ready-to-use” applications and reliable instruments. And now for more demanding applications, we have introduced the ECD-700, which has two detector cell capacity and allows for many combinations of detector types and working electrodes.
Variety of Working Electrodes Materials
• Graphite Electrode WE-3G, very stable and best S/N ratio. Little maintenance is required. Included in the standard configuration.
• Pure Graphite WE-PG, stable even at higher applied voltage
• Glassy Carbon WE-GC, conventional working electrode
• Platinum WE-PT, good for hydrogen peroxide. Commonly used with inline enzyme reactor columns.
• Gold WE-AU, well suited for thiol group detection
• Silver WE-AG
Dual working electrode for use with Eicom's amperometric detector cell.
• Graphite WED-3G
• Glassy Carbon WED-GC
Coulometric detector cell working electrode material.
• Porous Carbon (refer to Option 3 on previous page)

Diagram of Detector Cell
Eicom's advanced working electrode design requires much less maintenance than many ECD users may have become accustomed to. When the need does arise, the electrode can easily be accessed to replace it or wipe off any chemical build-up. Even after the cell is opened, the initial baseline signal is quickly restored without worry.
e pressure inside the cell is maintained by a spring-loaded ball assembly that ensures a constant pressure. e ball compresses the working electrode assembly at one point to evenly distribute the pressure across the working electrode.

Many “Ready-to-use” applicationsEicom provides complete, step-by-step protocols for a variety of applications. These protocols include instructions for sample collection and preparation, mobile phase recipes, storage and preparation of standards, and exact instrument settings. If you want to modify a method or create your own method, we can advise you on where to start and give you feedback about the data along the way.
Pulse DamperElectrochemical detection is extremely sensitive to changes in pressure. Consequently, each stroke of an HPLC pump can cause oscillations in the baseline signal, which necessitates the use of a pulse damper to obtain the lowest detection limit. If you will not be using an Eicom pump, we recommend using a pulse damper, such as Eicom PL-500. A Pulse damper is not required for Eicom pumps.

Eicom 700 Series Complete HPLC-Electrochemical Detector System
Sensitivity comes from more than just the detector.
If you need the very best performance of Eicom ECD-700, we recommend using the three 700 Series components as one system. The 700 Series includes an HPLC Pump (EP-700), Temperature Controller (ATC-700) and Electrochemical Detector (ECD-700). When used together, we promise the best results.
To achieve optimal performance from electrochemical detectors, there are important considerations. The Eicom 700 Series Total System addresses all of these requirements to ensure the best sensitivity.
• A chemically inert or, at a minimum, passivated interior because metal ions increase the background signal • A means to stabilize the baseline because oscillations in the pressure caused by the HPLC pump produce concomitant oscillations in the signal baseline • Effective temperature control because electrochemical detection is very sensitive to temperature
Eicom EP-700 HPLC PumpNo more pulse dampers required! Revolutionary pump design can effectively quench flow pulses.
Built-in, computer control continually adjusts the piston velocity during each stroke to minimize fluctuations in the pressure. Pulse free pumping works in both gradient and isocratic modes. Because

Options
EP-700H --- one high flow type pump
EP-700MM --- two micro flow pumps with gradient controller

EP-700MH --- one micro flow and one high flow pump
Eicom Complete 700 Series
the EP-700 does not require a damper, the volume between a column and the HPLC pump is minimal. This means rapid acquisition of steady-state pressure after starting the pump and more immediate solvent effects that are important to accurate gradients. An innovative 300 µL volume degasser is built in to guarantee continuous pumping and preventing noise at the detector.

Eicom ATC-700 Temperature Controller
Eicom AS-700 INSIGHT Autosampler
The Eicom ATC-700 uses a Peltier element that both heats and cools by convection to maintain precise temperature control. The system responds to just a 0.05°C change and controls the temperature of the both the columns and ECD cells.
We know your time is limited. Eicom's reliable autosampler injects samples while you are away. Autosamplers are must have item for knowledgeable HPLC users. For more details, please see the INSIGHT Autosampler brochure.
