Soyuz Delivers! Arianespace's 1st 2017 Mission

Arianespacebeganitsbusy2017launchschedulewithaSoyuzmissiontonightthatmarkedmultiple“firsts”inorbitingtheHispasat36W-1telecommunicationssatelliteonaflightfromtheSpaceport.Departingattheexactplannedliftoffmomentof10:03:34p.m.(localtimeinFrenchGuiana),Soyuzflewa32-minuteprofiletoreleaseitssatellitepassengerintogeostationarytransferorbit(GTO)–thefirstmissionthatArianespace’smedium-liftSoyuzhasperformedforaGTOdeploymentwhileoperatingfromtheSpaceport.Today’ssuccesswasSoyuz’16thlaunchfromFrenchGuianasinceitbeganserviceattheSpaceportin2011,andwasdesignatedFlightVS16inArianespace’slauncherfamilynumberingsystem.TheworkhorseSoyuzvehiclepreviouslydeliveredpayloadsonSpaceportmissionstocircularEarthorbits,low-Earthorbits,Sun-synchronousorbits,andanellipticalorbitforanEarthescapetrajectory.“ThisflightonceagaindemonstratestheavailabilityandflexibilityofArianespace’slaunchvehiclefamilyattheserviceofourcustomers,”saidStéphaneIsraël,thecompany’sChairmanandCEOincommentsfromtheSpaceport.Europe’s“SmallGEO”makesitsdebutAnotherfirstontonight’smissioninvolvedtheHispasat36W-1satelliteitself,whichistheinitialspacecraftbuiltusingDevelopedbyGermany’sOHBSystemAGunderESA’sARTES(AdvancedResearchinTelecommunicationsSystems)program,theSmallGEOproductlineoffersanentirelyEuropeansolutioninthesmallertelecommunicationssatellitemarket.Itbenefitsfromfasterproductionandtestingprocesses,reducedcostsandabroaderrangeofdesignoptions.Onceatitsorbitalpositionat36deg.West,Hispasat36W-1willenableSpanishsatellitecommunicationsoperatorHispasat–aleaderinthedistributionofcontentinSpanishandPortuguese–toprovideawiderangeoftelecommunicationsservicesinEurope,theCanaryIslandsandSouthAmerica.Equippedwith20Ku-bandtranspondersandtheadditionalcapacityofthreetranspondersinKaband,Hispasat36W-1featurestheinnovativeRedSATregenerativepayload,alongwithanantennaequippedwithaprocessorthatallowsonboardbeamreconfiguration.

• Inclination:5.44deg.foratargetof5.44deg.Keepingupthelaunchcadencein2017AsthefirstArianespacemissionfor2017,FlightVS16opensabusylaunchmanifestthattargetsupto12flightsduringtheyear,utilizingthemedium-liftSoyuz,heavy-liftAriane5andlightweightVega.Ofthistotal,sixareplannedbetweentodayandlateApril,underscoringArianespace’sreactivityinmeetingitscustomers’launchrequirements.

ThenextmissionisscheduledforFebruary14,usinganAriane5toorbittwotelecommunicationssatellitepassengers.DesignatedFlightVA235inArianespace’snumberingsystem,thislaunchwillcarrySKY-Brasil-1forAT&T(DirectTV).

Trump sanctions Venezuela vice president on drug trafficking
