INTRODUCTIONIndia has poised for an Economic growth of 8% of GDP. This economic as well asindustrial growth calls for additional Electrical power demand/energy. Already manystates are facing power shortage and quality of power is visible. To meet the presentas well as future electrical power demand, massive expansion of 765 KV / 400 KVlevel transmission lines and substations is contemplated which would be integral partof National Grid. It is necessary for practicing engineers today to have an exposure

to the state of art technology in all fields of EHV Substation Practices.

    OBJECTIVE

Design of EHV Switchgear, Transformer and innovations in material technologycontribute to life extension of equipment and efficient system operation. Theclearances to be adopted will be very important as the basic voltage levels are goinghigh. The construction and installation engineers / personnel need to be familiar withnew standards and clearances. Earthing practices have undergone changes.Battery back-up units are some of the allied areas that improve security and system.SCADA in power utilities is assuming entirely new dimensions for acquisition ofSubstation data. Gas insulated sub-stations and emerging trends in SF6 switchgearare some of the technologies that have to be suitably introduced into the existing

    systems.

It is against this background that the ESCI has considered it befitting to conduct aprogramme on 765 KV / 400 KV / 220 KV Sub Stations Design andConstructionwith a view to provide forum for exchange of information and sharing

of perceptions and experiences in this vital area of power sector. The programme willpave the way for greater awareness and speedy introduction of cost effectivetechniques and technologies in EHV Substation design & construction.

    COURSE COVERAGE

Principles of design of EHV Circuit Breakers, Instrument Transformers Specifications for Selection of 765 KV Power Transformers Substation Layouts, Busbar schemes Equipment Specifications, Insulation Coordination GIS Sub-stations Construction Management of EHV Sub-stations. Installation, Erection, and Commissioning of Transformers and Switchgear Testing

Practices Busbar Protection Differential protection of Transformers SCADA Earthing of Substation Design and Selection of Batteries and Battery Chargers Field Visits

METHODOLOGYThe programme will be conducted in an interactive environment providing greaterscope for discussions. Emphasis will be on a highly participative style of learning. The classrooms are provided with latest audio visual teaching aids. The ambiencein the campus and classrooms facilitate in effective learning by participants.
