RUNThe replacement or expansion of existing infrastructure and applications with the goal of retaining or creating basic functionality from the perspective of the user.
COMPLYCompliance with legislation and regulations, including safety, by setting up, rearranging, or configuring software, processes, procedures, work methods, and reporting.
TRANSFORMSupporting improvements to the organization and processes at Radboud university medical center with the aim of achieving more effective & efficient business and patientsatisfaction. This leads to increased productivity.

• Reduction in the number of general beds
• Reduction of outpatient clinic capacity
• Reduction in the area of staff housing
• Reduction of laboratory space
• More efficient use of facilities such as operating rooms
Business case: cutting back by roughly 10%
We have to increase the quality of the processes, the facilities, and the spatial environment by investing in the right areas.
Less Bricks, More Bytes, Different Behaviour
More Bytes: how to achieve innovation
• This is not• Building or creating new and innovative solutions
• But it is• Applying the available innovative solutions in a smart way
• The challenge• Acceptance by patients and employees• Embedding it into existing processes• Flexible and agile ICT architecture
A number of innovative solutions are currently being researched.
Using innovative solutions1. Experiential wayfinding (TomTom): smart
direction planner and support for patients
(patient journey), family members,
employees, and students. This begins at
home and ends when you leave the hospital.
2. Next-generation nurse calling and clinical
communication/collaboration: compact,
real-time integrated communication tools to
be used in the point of care.
3. Alarm notification platform: monitoring and
tracking. Provides insight into the status and
freedom of patients (‘better out of bed’
program).
Page 17
This begins at home with a notification appointment: once the patient arrives at the hospital, they can find
their way around by using an app and receiving
information and suggestions.
The patient can indicate what is going on or what they need
more clearly.
Continuous monitoring of vitals by using electrodes. Fall and wandering detection in
patient rooms. No closed departments
4. Track & Trace: countless options for knowing
where material and people are and what their
status is. Can be used for resources (IV poles,
beds), but also for employees and patients.
5. Virtual personal assistant / chatbots: smart
digital assistants like Siri or Cortana, that can
be used to e.g. schedule appointments or
answer questions (submitting orders)
6. Robots
1. logistics: automation and activities support
(transport).
2. primary process: things like care robots
(Pepper), check-in desks, etc.
Page 18
Self-management where possible using smart
chatbots.
Tracking & Tracing of tools, stock, and
people.
Using innovative solutions
7. Data center: how can we make our storage
and computing needs “greener”. Now that
we have our own data centers, outsourcing
to parties with more energy-efficient data
centers is an option, but the following
application may also be possible:

The produced heat is used to heat up the water in your home. You get free hot water and save on your gas bill. And you contribute to an enormous reduction of CO2 emissions!

• Collaboration meaning: sharing information
• Infrastructure
• Openness and transparency
• Clear agreements
