Goal 2 – Legal Compliance

AB 307• Requires LEA’s to educate students and teachers on

appropriate ethical use of information technology, internet safety, and copyright fair use

Broadband Data Improvement Act • Requires schools to educate minors about appropriate

online behaviors, including social networking and cyberbullying awareness and response

EGUSD Technology Plan (Board Approved)• Requires workshops for teachers and parents on issues

of online privacy, predators and cyberbullying

Internet Safety Curriculum

• Technology literacy is a critical issue for 21st century learning

• No longer a stand alone skill, but rather a cross curricular tool for teaching and learning

• Digital citizenship is an integral part of ISTE NETS, the EGUSD Technology Plan - and prepares students to learn and thrive in the 21st century work force.

Why i-SAFE Curriculum

The District adopted i-SAFE because:• Industry leader - Endorsed by U.S. Congress• Alignment with ISTE NETS• Excellent K-12 lessons• Powerful videos - positive feedback from EGUSD

trainings• Great organization of web and print content • Lessons for classrooms with or without computers• Overall impact of program• Positive reviews by EGUSD elementary focus group

i-SAFE Curriculum Topics

• Elementary School - Lesson topics presented by i-SAFE's character "i-Buddy." Each lesson provides students with exposure to Internet concepts and vocabulary through engaging hands-on activities.

• Middle School – Includes participatory activities to foster discussion, cooperative learning, concept development, and opportunities for school and community outreach. Materials include lesson plans for Service Learning projects and activities.

• High School- Participatory activities and discussions revolve around topic-centered webcast videos as well as traditional lesson plan formats. Materials include lesson plans and opportunities for Service Learning projects and activities.
