RECESSED IMPELLER PUMPS

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS:

A. Emile EGGER & CIE SA, Switzerland/ Egger Turo Pumps North America Inc., Salt

Lake City, UT or equal. 1. Turo Series

2.02 PUMP CONSTRUCTION: B. Pump: Pump shall be high efficiency fully recessed impeller end suction design.

1. Minimum efficiency: 45% C. Radial split back pull out design with spacer coupling is required.

D. The impeller is to be completely recessed and out of the flow path providing a full free

unobstructed passage through the pump.

E. For wear reduction only a fraction of the pumped medium shall get in contact with the impeller.

F. Sacrificial parts shall not be required. Hydraulic design shall be optimized to avoid

internal recirculation and low pressure areas.

G. Direct drive via spacer coupling is preferred.

H. Performance

I. Horizontal Pumps:

1. Mount each pump and drive on a common base.

a. Material: fabricated structural steel.

b. Provide structural steel shape bases, bent form bases are not acceptable.

c. Provide with provisions for grouting and for anchor bolts.

d. Design base plate to support pump and driver.

e. Provide planed surfaces of bearing pads for pumps and drives.

Construction: A. Pump Casing:

1. Provide materials for the pump services as follows:

(1) ASTM A532 Class III Type A

2. Design casings for removal of rotating parts without disconnecting suction and/or

discharge piping. 3. Provide pumps with a single piece casing incorporating an axial spiral in a circular

casing, centerline discharge and the impeller located in the center of the casing a. Tangential discharge casings are not acceptable. b. Pumps using cup type impellers and pumps requiring replaceable wear

elements are not acceptable.

c. Casing shall be self-venting.

4. Provide appropriate casing thickness required to withstand the specified hydrostatic test pressure, to prevent deflection caused by hydraulic thrust and to support the motor.

5. Provide flanged suction and discharge connections or face and drill flanges of

suction and discharge connections, in accordance with ANSI B16.5 Standard, rating 150 lbs.

6. Provide components with machined registered concentric shoulder fits for precision

alignment. Equipment without registered fits is not acceptable.

B. Main Frame:

1. Cast iron ASTM A48 Class 30 minimum.

2. Fit to casing with machined registered joints.

3. Provide main frame designed to resist without distortion, all stresses due to impeller thrust and bearing loads.

4. Provide main frame designed to support shaft and impeller and to contain stuffing

box and bearings.

C. Bearings:

1. Outboard bearing to be combination thrust and radial type; inboard bearing radial type.

2. Provide bearings with minimum B-10 life rating of 100,000 hours at specified

operating conditions and 40,000 hours minimum at 25 percent of the BEP at highest speed, based on latest ABMA and ANSI Standards.

3. Oil lubricated bearings.

a. Provide an oil reservoir equipped with constant oil levelers and with the

following: (1) Pressure venting device.

(2) Oil Fill.

(3) Drain Taps.

4. Provide bearing isolators as protection for bearings.

D. Pump Shaft:

1. AISI 4140 stainless steel, alternatively AISI 1045 heat treated steel, machined.

2. Protect shaft from wear at stuffing box and from contact with pumped liquid by removable and replaceable sleeve.

3. Sleeves:

a. Extend sleeves through stuffing box. b. Provide hooked sleeves

E. Seals:

1. Provide separate cast and machined seal boxes with registered fit. Seal boxes shall

not be an integral part of the casing cover. 2. Dry pit installations: Preferred seal is Hydrodynamic type that does not require seal

water from an external source. Seal to be of four (4) stage repeller design, single or double stage designs are not permitted.

3. Seal box must allow to accommodate single or double mechanical seal, gland packing or cartridge seals. Seal arrangements must be interchangeable without re-machining major pump components.

F. Impeller:

1. Type: Fully recessed single semi-open with curved radial vanes, machined to suit

the service conditions specified and indicated. Straight vanes may not be permitted.

2. Pump must be capable of passing a sphere size as indicated in the Pump Schedule.

3. Back shroud of impeller shall be equipped with high efficient curved back pump out vanes. Balancing blocks may not be permitted.

4. Material:

(1) ASTM A532 Class III Type A

5. Do not design hub with ports for reduction of thrust on impeller.

6. Key-seat and hold impeller to shaft by a streamlined bolt or locknut capable of

holding in event of motor reversal under full torque. Impeller screw material: Type 416 stainless steel.

7. Statically and dynamically balance each impeller.

G. Coupling:

1. Horizontal Pumps: Spacer coupling.

2. Provide coupling guards conforming to OSHA requirements.

3. Guards and Hardware: Type 316 stainless steel

H. Motor:

1. Motor shall be sized for max impeller diameter at rated motor speed.
