WEEKLY UPDATE
October 27, 2017
From the desk of the Principal:
The character education word of the month is APPRECIATE
STUDENTS OF THE WEEK
STUDENT: Mason Brown Nominated by: Sra Lombardi From the beginning of the school year, in addition to demonstrating courtesy and honesty,
Mason has demonstrated consideration of others. He is helpful to his classmates during group
work. He senses when I’m looking for materials (that could be in any of 3 places!) and points
them out to me. Yesterday, when we were returning from a fire drill, Mason secured the doors
leading into our hallway. Most students simply open the door and go through, letting it close
behind them. Mason made sure the magnets were connected so that everyone could easily
pass. Kindly recognize Mason for always putting others first, and going above and beyond
what is required.
STUDENTS: Ali Rowland and Joe Moller Nominated by: Ms. Messeck Both of these students displayed leadership, maturity and compassion while helping me respond
to two separate medical emergencies during the same block in my class. They both made calls
to the nurse giving them information and requesting help as I was with the students. I am proud
to have students like these two in my class!!
The Latin Carnival was another great success this year. Last Saturday, kids from all over the
township enjoyed face painting, games, fortune telling, candy piñatas and wandering through a
maze erected in the commons area (with some great treats at the exit!). It was great seeing the
kids in their costumes enjoying the many activities as well as Latin program alumni who came
back to support the event. Congratulations to Mrs. Kammerman and our Latin student leaders
for another great year!
The annual HERO Walk is upon us this Sunday. For those newer to the staff, John was a
graduate of both EHTHS and the U.S. Naval Academy and the HERO Campaign is both a
celebration of his life as well a reminder of the devastation that can be caused by drunk driving.
Being a HERO means that you believe that through education and involvement, we can put an
end to unnecessary tragedies and make the roads a safer place for all of our families. Still time
to register and/or donate and remember to wear your 2017 HERO Walk shirts to school this
Monday, October 30:

Spirit Week begins Monday culminating with our Homecoming Game Friday versus Bridgeton
and Homecoming Dance on Saturday. Thanks to Mrs. Terry and the Student Council for
planning a great week of fun activities (see flyer below for specifics). Homecoming is always a
great time so don’t miss out on the Football and Cheerleading teams and Marching Band and
Color Guard. Go Eagles!!
New Jersey Council for Social Studies Annual Meeting at Rutgers - Using Podcasts in the
Classroom presentation by Scott Migliore and Doug Winkler.
Stockton Dual Credit teachers all came to EHTHS to engage in professional development from
Echoes and Reflections on October 24th. Presenter was Jill Rembrandt. Rachel Worrall and
Eileen Hannigan hosted the event.
Last weekend the AP Government class, and their families went to Washington DC and toured
the White House, National Archives, and National Gallery. During their White House tour
they walked the grounds of the White House and saw the Oval Office, and Rose Garden. While
at the National Archives they saw the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution and
Bill of Rights.
Have a great weekend,
Terry

VARSITY
FIELD HOCKEY The Varsity team finished its season with a defeat to Cherokee in the
NJSIAA Group IV playoffs on Wednesday. The team finished with a 7-
12-1 overall record and 6-7-1 in the league.
FRESHMEN
FOOTBALL
The freshmen football team hosted Lower Cape May High School at the
Nest on Thursday. Lower Cape May opened the game with a nice drive
which ended in a touchdown. This was the last time they visited the
promise land. Our baby eagles shut down the Lower Cape May triple
option. The baby eagles’ offense discovered their wings and flew to the
promise land four times. The baby eagles won 28-6. The team was
playing for someone other than themselves this game. Chris Decker,
Avery Mckim and Kennith Underwood ran for hard. Shae Smith
recorded an interception on defense.
JV FOOTBALL The Eagles JV football team lost a hard fought game to the Prep last
week. The team will take on Hammonton on Monday, October 30th at
home.

EHT 7
The opponent jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and the
Eagles started off slow out of the gate. EHT then went on to out-hit the
opponent for the duration of the game, competed down to the wire, and
gave themselves an opportunity for a late-game comeback, but
eventually fell short. Sophomore running back Woodrow McKenzie had
the best game of his young career, rushing for over 70 yards. The EHT
defense thwarted every opponent drive in the 2nd half, forcing a fumble
and adding an interception by senior defensive back Matt Princz. Senior
punter Jake Rosenbleath continued to come up big on special teams, and
junior kicker Chris Cannuli executed his second successful onsides kick
of the season.
EHT travels to Hammonton this Friday night 10/27 to take on the Blue
Devils.

Record:12-2-2
No. 13 EHT lost to No. 4 Cinnaminson 1-0 on Saturday in the SJSCA
tournament. In what was a relatively even match, Cinnaminson was
able to find a goal early on in the first half and held on to advance in the
bracket. EHT’s senior captain Siani Magruder nearly tied the game with
a few minutes left. Siani made a courageous run in behind the defense,
but unfortunately, her outstretched touch found the wrong side of the
near post.
EHT went into Monday’s game needing a win to claim the American
Conference title, but fell short, tying rival Mainland 0-0 after 100
minutes of soccer. In what turned out to be a nearly identical scenario
as last year, EHT failed to clinch the title by tying Mainland in a
scoreless draw. The entire team should be commended for their
effort. Because of the result, Mainland claims the title. Interesting
enough, EHT will play the other two CAL conference champions,
Ocean City and Holy Spirit later this week.
BOYS VARSITY
SOCCER
The Varsity team finished the season with a 5-10-2 overall record and 4-
8-2 in the league. The team showed tremendous improvement as they
finished the last game of the season in a 2-2 tie with Mainland. The
team narrowly missed the NJSIAA playoffs as the final seed.
JV Girls Soccer EHT JV Girls' Soccer had a successful season finishing with a 10-2
record. Each of the two losses were by a single goal. The team scored a
total of 45 goals this season and allowing only 6 goals all season leading
to a 39 goal differential! Additionally 17 of the 19 girls on the roster
scored at least one of these 45 goals.
GIRLS TENNIS Girls tennis had a successful first day at the Cape Atlantic
Tournament. All singles players, Emily Manzo, Sarah Phung, and
Tiffany Trivers, won their first round matches easily. Tiffany played
well against the state singles champion, Tess Fisher, in the second
round, but lost in a hard-fought match. Emily and Sarah won their
second round matches and will play their third rounds on Thursday, Oct.
26.
EHT's first doubles team, Gaby Guimapang and Samantha Phung, are
the top-seeded team in the tournament. They had a bye in the first
round and won their 2nd round match. Second doubles, Asia Lackland
and Christine Vu, also advanced to the third round. Quarterfinals and
semi-finals of the tournament are scheduled for Thursday, Oct.
26. Finals are scheduled for Oct. 31.
GIRLS AND
BOYS CROSS
COUNTRY
Girls Cross Country
Last week the girls won the Atlantic County Championship held at
Hammonton Lake Park. It is the girl's second championship in the past
three years. The girls dominated the race with the lowest score in recent
history. Madelyn Shick finished fourth overall in the race and was the
first finisher for the Eagles. The girls ran in a strong pack behind
Madelyn finishing 5,6,7,8 in the race. Gianna Scarangelli finished 5th,
Rachel Roesch finished 6th, Olivia Shafer finished 7th, and freshman
Mikki Pomatto continued an incredible season finishing 8th. The
Eagles will compete to defend their CAL championship Oct. 26th at the
Millville Raceway.
Boys Cross Country
The boys lost a very close race to Mainland finishing second at the
Atlantic County Championships. The boys had the fasted team average
in school history but came up just short to Mainland who are currently
ranked 4th in South Jersey. The Eagles will look to turn the table on
Oct 26th at the CAL Championships.
ATHLETIC
DIRECTOR
The fall season for some teams has come to an end. Boys soccer and
Field Hockey finished their regular season and post-season play this
week. Girls Soccer will host Williamstown on Monday at 2:00 for the
first round of the NJSSIAA Tournament. Girls Tennis has a great
tournament run, but lost a tough match in the SH Finals to
Vineland. Congratulations to Girls XC as they repeated as Atlantic
County Champions. Football is away Friday night at Hammonton and
hoping to get the win. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook at @EHTNJ
