Environmental Terms1. What Is The Definition of Recycled Paper?The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines recycled paper as paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste.

2. What is Post Consumer Waste Paper?Paper that has been used by the end consumer and is then collected for recycling. No new trees were cut during the paper making process.

3. What is Processed Chlorine Free Paper?This refers to paper that is not bleached with chlorine. Pulp mills using chlorine for bleaching produces a family of different chemicals known as dioxins, and a host of other chemicals called organochlorines.

Bleaching Terms:Totally chlorine free (TCF) - No chlorine or chlorine derivatives used to make the paper, which means the paper must come from virgin (new) fiber.

Elementally chlorine free (ECF) - Papers produced from pulp that has been bleached with a chlorine derivative such as chlorine dioxide, but without elemental chlorine.

Secondarily chlorine free (SCF) - Paper made from recycled fiber that has not been rebleached with any chlorine based bleach.

4. What does FSC mean?The Forest Stewardship Council is an international non-profit, organizationestablished in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. Its tools for achieving this are standard setting, independent certification and labeling of forest products.

5. What is Tree Free Paper (Non-Wood Paper)?An alternative to wood pulp paper by its raw material composition. Paper made from Banana, Mango, Coffee, Lemon and Hemp mixed with post-consumer paper are considered tree free.

6. Is 100% Non Toxic Toner more Environmental than Soy Ink?Yes, there is no use of petroleum distillates in toner. Petroleum distillates arecombustible, produce oil waste that needs to be carefully managed, and potentially contribute to volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions in the work environment.

Even in soy and other vegetable oil based inks, the solid parts of the ink may contain mercury, arsenic, cadmium, selenium, and even lead. The actual soy content in some types might be as little as 6 or 7 percent, according to the labeling standards set up by the American Soybean Council.
