    I. The cell phone has created a serious impact on the world since its birth in the 20thcentury.

    a) In Sweden, the police department officially used the first mobile phone in theirpolice cars and were used as two-way radios.

    b) The worlds first commercial portable cell phone, DynaTAC 8000x, wasintroduced in 1983 and was followed by other developments in cell phones.

    c) Today, cellular phones perform functions of computers, music players, camera,video recorders and televisions, hence, are in great demand.

    d) Nearly half of the world owns a cell phone today and various surveys worldwidehave found high rates of mobile phone use among young individuals.

    II. The cell phone has quickly become an absolute necessity for a growing percentage of theworlds population especially to teenagers.

    a) Teens admitted spending nearly an equal amount of time talking as they dotexting each month.

    b) The reduction in the cost of handsets, their smaller size and the introduction ofthe prepaid phone card contributed to the surprisingly rapid adoption rate by

    young people.
