Johari Window

The Johari Window model was developed by behavioral scientists Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham in1955.

A four paned "window" divides personal awarenessinto four different types, as represented by its four

quadrants: open, hidden, blind, and unknown.

Open - that part of our conscious self - our attitudes,behavior, motivation, values, way of life - of which weare aware and which is known to others.

Blind - there are things about ourselves, which we donot know, but that others can see more clearly; orthings we imagine to be true of ourselves but thatothers do not see at all.

Hidden - that part of our personality, which we freely keep within ourselves

Unknown - We are more rich and complex than that

which we and others know, but from time to timesomething happens - is felt, read, heard, dreamed -something from our unconscious is revealed. Then we"know" what we have never "known" before.
